ERF 'European' (1975)

3300John:
Hiya…Robert would you look on the Mack page please…look at the bottom of the last page. there,s a very interesting
Motorpanels cab along side of a Mack both are blue and gray in colour.it seems the belong to they same company.the cab
looks as high as high as the 7mw
John

You are right John. As far as I know, three models used the tall version of the mark 4 Motor Panels cab: the French Mack, the Scammell Crusader and the ERF NGC European. Cheers! Robert

There is discussion of these elsewhere on the forum. The threads might have been something like “Mack in Europe” or “Bernard” or “Old French lorries”. I would try to find them, but the search engine on here annoys me.

Despite erroneous info to the contrary, some of the Vick / Read / Vijore NGC drivers are still very much among us. I’ve been out and about and collected considerable excellent material for the sequel to my book, which is now in a serious publishable form already and will probably be called Lorries of Arabia 2: ERF NGC. All will be revealed.

Just a small detail that has emerged from my findings: a number of NGCs fitted with the 9-speed Fuller had the chrome-top ‘bicycle bell’ type gear-knob. Several months back I posted here that I suspected this to be the case but couldn’t prove it: now I can!

Cheers, Robert

It’s amazing what turns up in old REVS magazines! Robert

I’ve just found another real gem in REVS magazine No. 11 (Aug 1990). It will be of particular interest to Colin Wallace who has contributed much about this vehicle on this thread. It reveals lots of interesting facts that we have already pieced together, mostly with Colin’s help. However, it also reveals that the NTC 335 transplanted from the De Meulemeester unit from Belgium was its THIRD engine, a second 335 having been transplanted from a Transcontinental and which subsequently suffered slight cracking in the head.

The other astonishing revelation is that GEH 513N did the Middle-East run for a while - you can read all the details herein. I’ve often wondered why it had twin breather pipes up the back of the cab like other Middle-East NGCs! That brings the number of Middle-East NGCs to 31 out of 91 - Lorries of Arabia indeed! Click it to enlarge. Enjoy. Robert

Whatever happened to this truck, did it survive later than the early 1990s?

Be a shame if it ended up scrapped.

Alas, it was scrapped a long time ago! Robert

Good find there Robert. Its a pity John didn’t write any books, I think most on here would have found them very interesting.
Very sad to say John passed away last month, so a whole heap of knowledge and experience(you’d need to be running under STGO 3 to carry) has passed along with him. Colin.

Hello Colin! Sorry to hear that John as gone. Thank you for the picture! I haven’t seen that before. Cheers. Robert

ERF-Continental:
Guess that was Rene Postma/Interwheels…no longer active in trucks-transfers, by the way he would bought
the French NGC in case the price was right, apparently not…

Sure as hell I would have bought the ERF if the price was right. We’ve been there and had a serious look at the old lady. But she is in a really bad state, especially the cab needs a lot of welding. The good man, however, asked just too much money for it.
By the way I found this ERF on a french site named leboncoin.fr where it was advertised as a … Ford.
InterWheels as a company no longer exist as we have moved to the USA. No ERF’s to be found here.

Just an update for what it’s worth…I overheard right now that the R. Collin NGC has been sold to a Dutchman
quite recently and by far for NOT at the (high) price suggested over here, but I wish the owner real good luck!!!

Hello Rene! If you are not same Dutchman referred to in the above post from 20th March 2014, do you know who is? Robert

On may 31st of 1974, Mr. W Ghys of CDB visited Mr. Eyckmans to discuss the buying of an NGC-420. Accordingly on june 4th 1974 Mr Eyckmans was offered and NGC-420, 3.10 metres wheelbase, with a Fuller 9509A gearbox. So not a 9508 as stated on your book insert. A Fuller RTO 9513 was offerend as an option for an extra 15000 belgium francks. Including a one year warranty or 80000 kilometers, which ever comes first.

Hows the book sales going robert  ok i hope…

Here’s a picture of the french NGC ad I found on the leboncoin website. I have made some enquiries about the whereabouts of this unit. When I receive
useful answer I will post it heren.

Evening all,

You know I`m getting on in age, and I enjoy these various threads for their rambling enjoyment!

But these ERF threads are getting silly…as did those on Messers ■■■■■■■ engines…why?

Because peoples" Ego`s " are getting in the way of facts

Robert 1952 is diligently researching content for published books , to ensure that the written word is correct. …No problem…we are all here to help

Then I get a PM, from someone called A-J, (and also “En Tour Age” and ERF Continental…two titles for the same poster)!!!..to complain that he cannot continue due to the threads becoming" rough"…and citing his “academic research”, and everyone else`s posts not being “fact based”.

Heaven help us all!

Now we have this lot from Leyland Marathon 2…goodness me…am I getting older…or is the fact that I have bought and sold a fair number of lorries over a good few years clouding my judgment over the validity of some of these posts…

The world works like this…you have an item to sell, (some may think that it has some significance…type…value…uniqueness…) A price is given…either you pay that price…or you go away…It is really that simple!!!

Good luck Robert…if you can sort fact from fiction!!!

Perhaps one day I should tell you about MABO and ERF…

Cheerio for now.

WTF is this all about?
Now we have this lot from Leyland Marathon 2■■?
Who the hell you think you are to react on my genuine posts like that?
I simply try to supply Robert with information and experience I have with these motors.
It would suit you to hold back on your silly comments.

Re your last post…Grow up!

Re your last post…Grow up!

Typical a reaction from an old frustated …
If you can handle it, stay away from it.
You tell me to grow up, seems like you’re still in the process. Despite your age.
What a loser you are.
I bet you’ve always been.

Oh dear…have I touched a nerve…

Your comments…I do not think so…

Have a nice day y`all!

Cheerio for now.
