ERF beautys

all the best
sm1 (leeds depot)

Hi, Snowman,
Would go back to them days tomorrow, I,d just like a forklift with me.
How many bags have we handballed off over the years eh.? Wouldn,t mind a quid for every one, it would boost the pension a bit.
Hope things are OK with you , must have a natter soon.

Cheers Bassman (Mick)

Robert1952,

You didn,t have to drive in the Middle East to drive stripped down to shorts and boots .Just drive an old Gardner powered ERF on a warm summers day and if anything opened to fresh air ,you opened it!! And vinyl covered seats as well, ooh, how I remember them!
Cheers Bassman

From Commercial Motor 24th January 1969:

‘The new ERF six-wheeler and the twin-steer tractive unit introduced at Earls Court are featured by ERF’s new Belgian distributor C.D.S. (Belgium) SA. The specification of the six-wheeler which is designed for 26 tons gross is similar in many ways to trucks currently being exported to Jordan by the manufacturer. This applies particularly to the Motor Panels all-steel sleeper cab but the engine is a ■■■■■■■ NH220 with the drive through a Fuller 15-speed gearbox.
The Motor Panels cab design is becoming very popular and apart from the ERF .and the Guy and Seddon chassis at Brussels.’

This ERF was pictured and used on the E series drivers hand book front cover when new .

The thing is, with ERFs; you just had to produce 'em. Take the LV-cabbed examples of the late '60s / early '70s. First you had to find really good breeding material and mate 'em:

BW299-2-2.jpg

Then they’d develop in the old Sandbach womb:

NBP-1239-001-lo.jpg

After that, a brand-new LV-cabbed ERF would be born (ahh, bless):

Of course it would grow up to be a sturdy ERF and make its own way in life, and in some cases perform amazing feats in the Middle East!:

And eventually, naturally, it would become old and tiresome and retire gracefully among the rosebay willow-herb and meadow fescues.

And that’s the way it is! Have a good evening,

Robert

BRS B-series beauty. Robert

there are some fantastic ERF waggins on here, I have a KV 44G EX BENSONS OF BURY sweet lorry which belonged to my Dad George Wassell , He drove all his working life retiring at 69 because of tax issues hitting his pension, this lorry was coachbuilt by Jennings and exhibited at the 1962 Earls court motor show. I do not know how to put the photo on here, but if you look at my older posts you will see the lorry or type in BENSONS ERF SWEETLORRY ON GOOGLE. FOR IMAGES PEOPLE HAVE POSTED, ALSO ON A VIDEO AT WHITWOOD TRUCK STOP, YOUTUBE WHITWOOD TRUCKSTOP 04 10 2015. THE LORRY IS ON AFTER ABOUT 10MINS OF FILM.

Cheers

Good old ERF KV.jpg

Robert 1952

Two pics. for you.
One is a pic. of the ERF that I believe they built thier reputation on , the venerable “KV”.
The other pic is what I think encompasses all that ERF achieved in multi wheel chassis. And I would have loved to have had a day on it!!
Pics. borrowed off Facebook. no offence intended.

Here’s an interesting photo, taken from the Duxbury thread, of another example of a B-series ERF on Middle-East work. It is seen parked in Austria, apparently. This one has RHD and was operated by David Duxbury. Robert
