End of an era again on R2

My first real introduction to Luxembourg was during one of the first road trips with my parents on the Continent in 1970.Always remember they were playing Smokey Robinson Tears of a Clown, Carpenters Close to You and Christie Yellow River a lot.
It sounded great on the clear motorways and the scenery rolling by.
Then later discovered some Euro stations and the Euro pop scene mixed in with Brit imports.
I like listening to Flashback FM from Zurich and France Bleu more recently and RTL seemed to have taken over the old Luxembourg a long while ago.
I’ve now learnt how to stream them to the car radio from my phone over here too now.Better than the old Medium Wave reception of foreign stations on night trunking.

Just a Steve Wright style .‘factoid’

‘Lord Haw Haw’ the Brit N4zi traitor, (alias William Joyce) used to broadcast all of his propaganda messages to the UK via the Radio Luxembourg studios during WW2.
‘Germany Calling’

find it funny that you robroy were "flushed out " in the defence /melee over Stevo. Now dont get all uppity ,as you say “they were asking for it”

A the day wore on today i remembered more about stevo and savile-their saturday morning shows ran back to back allus was banter around the handover . Im not sure if stevo was a bad egg peado per se ,it is so long ago i cant recall hi word just the gist , didnt he have a "mr pervy " a well as a “mr angry” in his shows? .At that time i listened to saville but couldnt avoid stevo . If you google them both plenty of foto of them together at variou functions

‘Flushed out’’ ?
‘Uppity’ ?
Wtf are you slavering about mate exactly? :flushed:…Aye ok, but only in your mind,.nobody elses.:joy:

But yeah of course, I’m right with you on all of this…
I mean, why did Steve Wright (at the time a newbie DJ, when Saville was considered a bit of a radio legend)
not say on live radio, during the ‘show to show handover’, and in the style of Harry Enfield’s ‘‘Self righteous brothers’’ :joy: (google it or do a you tube search if you dont know wtf I’m on about) …

‘‘Hey Saville …Nooooo…I know you are a well respected national treasure, but in 25 years time when you croak, you will be outed as a raging paedo, so why dont you f. right off you perv and leave me to do my show’’
And then breathe out loudly.:joy:

You are right I can not for the life of me understand why he didnt do that on live radio…:flushed:

Seriously mate…get real, and a kin life.
:joy:

Wrightshite must have had something on someone in the BEEB to have kept his job as long as he did.

Yep if ya think.

Did anyone listen to the last one :smiling_face_with_tear: Perfect playlist, what a way to bow out. Good luck JW

Well came across a recent interview with Jonny and Tiggy :disappointed:
I didn’t realise his health was that bad :worried:
I think he’ll be appearing in another thread by the end of the year :disappointed:

Yep…
I have his last show on my list to listen to.
He is like Ken Bruce, he comes across as a genuine type guy…(no doubt our opinionated mate will have some kind of ambiguous (or made up) anecdote against them both.:joy:)

My earliest memories of JW was at school on a wed lunchtime break, all huddled around a trannie (leave it ) listening to the new chart countdown.
And then about 20 years ago when he did the R2 afternoon slot, in the days when I had a good job with a good firm, his voice reminds me of those days.
He had top guests on there, I remember Macca talking about the death of his Mrs a few years earlier, he opened right up, as JW had that technique of getting prople to do that.

Yep a true radio legend up there with Alan Freeman, Kennny Everett,.and Steve Wright.
I hope he has a lot more time left to enjoy at home with his wife.

iv nothing bad to say about JW ,once read a book hed written how he had allus wanted to travel across the states in a motorhome and he did just that with his young son,but found it so gruelling /boring . Re-Macca i read some fellah broke into his farmhouse in Scotland was living in the roofspace left it a mess

I suggest you have a listen to your listen to list lol.
I think you’ll enjoy it mate.

Zoe Ball departing breakfast show.

Will the last DJ to leave Wogan house please turn out the studio lights

Can’t stand her anyway.
Last thing I need when I am in my usual early morning mood is some ‘Posh jolly middle class bird’ giving me GBH on the lug holes.
I still say Gary Davies should have a regular day time show, and would be a good replacement…if only for me to pretend whilst listening that I am back in the 80s, rocking a mullet and Magnum tache.:joy:

Scott mills is taking her place. After 6 years of getting up early she’s tired bless her.
Chris evens was on early for a lot longer and still is as far as I know.
BBC have a new head apparently who’s younger and wants to attract younger audiences shaking up the regiment etc.
Probably explains her departure along with Gary lineaker

So who is taking Mills job?
He got Steve Wright’s spot didn’t he?
I don’t bother much with R2 nowadays.

So how much longer will old Whispering Bob last ?

Theyd do well to recruit a nobody as a DJ ,some old crone or teenager who just happened to be walking by the studio and offer them the big money and id wager theyd soon have a very interesting show.

Is he still going, loved listening to him on the Old Grey Whistle Test?

Never listened too R1, and never R2 since Jimmy Young left.

A while I hope. Have you listened to Sounds of the 70s with him at the helm yet? I haven’t had chance.
Haven’t tuned into R2 since JW departed.
