Eddie Stobart Trucks and Trailers, Channel 5

Well the joys, roll on next week when my apperance on the tv starts so u can all take the ■■■■ out of me lol… Don’t no if I’m lookin forward to it or dreeding it. Will see Friday when I log back on here… !!!

A £50 note in a brown envelope and I’ll tell the world you’re a star

Why is the Volvo £80,000 and yet the MAN £150,000 ■■? anyway my little 26 tonner top trumps them at £250,000 !!! I like Mo the Top Gun I think he is a model driver we should all aspire too, and doesnt he realise those cleaners are taking the ■■■■ out of him!!! I liked the end after following the elite drivers through the programme the driver at the end summed it up “all we want to do is get home” I think that was the most realistic part of the programme!!!

and a special guest was on it also… it was… wait for it… JOHN VIRGO as the tanker driver going on holiday!

I read one of Norman Parker’s excellent books about being a lifer in Parkhurst among other prisons, and he told a tale of another inmate known as “Top Cat”.

Except that the only person who ever called the inmate “Top Cat” was the inmate himself, when he spoke about himself in the third person… “The old Top Cat did this” instead of “I did this”. Everybody else called him a nob.

I suspect the same is true of our old friend Top Gun.

There are still Brits who drive to far-flung corners of Russia and Asia, a program about them might be more interesting.

Think the £ 150000 refers to unit and trailer

What a load of claptrap seems to me tv coms. will show any sort of egadgerated bull to further run down the haulage industry image in the eyes of the general public. Now your going to get joe public thinking trls weigh 44 tons and tankers are going to explode any minuite. The ind.needs some genuine publicity from a com struggling to continue due to govt restrictions an,d heavy fuel taxes.A prog showing how hard ,it is to keep to deadlines with traffic jams and impossible del.time.Also some secret filming showing the abuse handed down to drivers from customers.
regards dave.

 maybe if this was turned into a cartoon it might be bit more factual and realistic ,tankerman could be the superhero wearing his undies on top of his green uniform and tm in big letters on his shirt,mo could be family guys peter griffin type character ,and quagmire could be sniffing after wills cup swiviling pa,who was 1st in the queue when arses were given out, giggity giggity

i watched it oh dear but the bird in it next week looks ok so i will now have to watch it again :unamused:

hi all,
if you thought this programme was bad, then all i can say is it was alot better than the weekly programme on owens transport from llanelli, that was dire

I think dafdave makes a fair point there, what with exploding tankers and overweight trucks, Mo made out he runs to the limit of his working day, drinks and uses the phone at the wheel, while his planner explains how dangerous a tired driver can be.

And me not being the most fashion conscious bloke, does anyone else think William looks like a hill farmer on his first day at market with some yows?

Coming soon from SHI-TV, Smith and Sons Tippers and just a few trailers. In the first issue, Muckaway uses colourful language when he realises he’s left his flask in the weighbridge…Drivers calculate their bonus and worry like f**k when someone else gets the same job 2 days in a row…NVQ forms are cut into little squares and pinned to the toilet wall…There’s pandemonium when every 6 wheeler driver fights for a go on the washdown after rumours abound that there are 2 new 6 wheelers at the sprayers…Smiler drives around the pit 3 times in order to book an extra quarter of an hour…And 3 drivers need treatment for shock when the weighbridge operators mind there own business…

I WOULD work for them probably wouldnt last long with all the bs but would try it before i slagged it , love too be the bloke shaking WTF !!! as his new volvo is bought too him in next weeks episode :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, how exciting, I’ve replaced my old worn out hammer with a new 1…

They’re only tools to do the job, sad gits lol.

I don’t know have you ever seem mechanics screaming like little girls when the Snap On van turns up.

yes mate we do scream when the snap on van turns up,we also run out of his way,we have to pay him

Personally speaking, if you cut away the inevitable layer of TV bulls1hit, I thought it was a pretty decent programme.

As someone who has only ever done tippers, mainly as an o/driver most of what was on this programme is completely different to what I’m used to. Yes, Mo was a prize pillock but what can you expect for a telly show? They aren’t gonna put a bloke on who is great at his job but doesn’t say much - it doesn’t make great telly.

The hyping up of the dangers of tanker driving was pretty laughable but driving on the UK roads is probably more dangerous than anything on Ice Road Truckers, so maybe not! The bosses are clearly a pair of wide-boys on the make but you can’t deny that the whole operation is bloody impressive.

I’d much rather watch this than some other makeover show, or celebrities cooking dinner for each other etc.

P.S. The secretary wants to move some of that caboose up a bit and round the front, bit heavy on the rear axle that one!

Thats about my thoughts on the programme.
It wasn’t anywhere near as bad as it could have been, I had to turn Ice Road Truckers off, before I through something hard n heavy at my tv :open_mouth:

i think alot of peeps on here are taking life far too serious being that the program was on channel five should of gave you clues that it would of been made for entertainment not a factual doc, alot of you drivers should really count yourselves lucky that you only chose to watch that tripe for a short amount of time, instead of spending everyday working for them, i resisted to watch it being a stobbie driver but i did give in to the temptation after reading the posts and i have to say i felt embarrassed for them,

i can only stick up for myself and other drivers i meet on my night tramping travels is that were not all like the hand picked motley crew, and the majority of drivers work for payday not for the glory, stobarts is like any typical big company full of rules and stupid little welks that love to get you in the ■■■■ if you put a foot wrong, as i have experienced on many occasions already. but back to the program it will be a big hit with people who are not in the industry and the stobbie spotters and trust me they do carry these huge papprazi style camera’s i always wondered if any of them have ever tried to pass there test to actually become a stobbie driver or maybe thats whats coming up in the next episode :unamused: either way we all know as drivers that its just a show.

I’m with Dusty on this!!

I’m a night Tramper for Stobbies at Aveley and us lads are not in any way like the handpicked  “Mad Morris” or Mo is alright a little OTT but a good fella met him a few times at Crick.

Don’t know any of the others in this Episode but the series is obviously an opportunity that Stobarts could not refuse  And is not bad from what i saw a bit too dramatic! but then i work at night and the road network is pretty clear :grimacing:

Some comments on here though are not surprising as Stobart drivers are well aware of the HATERZ :unamused:

MoREMOVED you really are we had a couple of old school drivers like that they had the same attitude as mo [zb] know it all smart arses, well they have retired now and they were trampers lived in the cab.

Couldn’t agree more about that Mo,it’sREMOVED like that who make the job hard work.

William and his pal look like they’d be offering to tarmac your drive if they hadn’t dropped lucky. Talk about cash not buying you class.
