I guess we can look forward to something like this then?

that would be a nice tribute so someone who had such a big effect on the haulage industry , whether people liked him or not you have to respect him for his achievements .

RIP Eddie , 56 is far too young

Hear hear, a sad loss, and not so far into his retirement too. I’m sure his family are in all our thoughts.

Ex Haulier:
The man was a legend. He built a business that has come to be household name and has stood the test of time, and he paid his bills. It’s a very small man who would have a “pop” at this time.

He was made bankrupt which suggests he had some trouble paying his bills? I believe he sold the business to his brother as it got into trouble, hardly surprising when you consider the margins he worked on. We’ve had threads on here about smaller firms going to the wall because a bigger customer knocked them but this doesn’t apply to St. Edward? He put his drivers in a collar and tie and clean, tidy trucks. Hardly rocket science is it? I can’t say I’ve noticed any change in the general publics’ attitude towards me as a trucker because of anything St. Edward did. He did what he did for him and like the rest he did it off the back of his workers, so maybe we should venerate the others too while we’re at it? You all talk as if he was a personal friend!

Was he made bankrupt ?.

Like many more old drivers, I never was a fan of Stobarts because of the way he dropped the rates and put others out of business, but 56 is too young for anyone to go, RIP.

there isnt a owner driver or small fleet that would say no to a fleet like stobarts.

100% agree with you there JD.

I’ve never considered myself to be a Stobart fan personally. I think in some ways they caused a lot of damage to other operators in their time, but that is what competition is about. That said, it is sad to see a man die so young, it would have been nice if he could have enjoyed his retiriement. Love Edward Stobart or hate him, he certainly put his business on the map and I think time will prove that in many ways he revolutionised the industry in general. Handbrake on. Engine off. RIP

The reason I don’t buy the Daily Mirror :frowning:

A close friend said: “It is terribly sad. His dad, who started it all, is still alive in his 80s living in ■■■■■■■■ The family is very private and they won’t be talking about this.”

In recent years Mr Stobart had suffered a number of personal setbacks.

In 2008 his adopted son, also called Edward Stobart, was wrongly accused of ■■■■■■ a teenage girl and was beaten up in a number of revenge attacks. In May last year Mr Stobart was banned from driving for 20 months after he admitted drink-driving in his Mercedes. Last July he was also declared bankrupt at Warwick county court.

Wasn’t one of the stobart’s caught bunkering diesel several years ago,? apparently he had a lot of vehicles that would return from europe with a full tank, most of which was siphoned out,& then bunkered they ran a lot of of the uk operation on the said fuel, no wonder why they cut their rates, until HMRC felt their collar ,

but yeah 56 is not the age that you wanna be dying R.I.P.

Will the cemetery offer to do the transport for free as they will be doing the warehousing, so to speak?

I can see this funeral attracting all the fan club freaks, i can also see them doing something really tatty like name the funeral motor a womens name.

If wullie and tinkler have any sense it will be a quiet affair, no doubt the pair of them will see a profit in it :unamused:

so many sad and lonely people that have to hang on to a sad and lonely person that they think they knew

eddie just about put the green tie brigade out the game thats why william took it over

william will eventually do the same

anyone living on credit will tell you that you have to pay back what you have borrowed

its only a matter of time before the banks ask fast eddie for their money

long time coming but it will

What a pillock. You really don’t understand how stock market listed companies work do you.

ohhhhhhh think we got a bit of a spotter here or even worse an eddie sycophant

What else can you expect from a Left Wing,Labour supporting Capitalist hating newspaper like the Daily Mirror!!! They’ve a lot of room to talk,I remember they once had,as an owner, one of the biggest fraudsters ever—one Robert Maxwell.IIRC didn’t Fast Eddie once pile into newspaper distribution and the customer was the Daily Mirror? or was it the Sun?just can’t remember though.Although I didn’t reckon much to some of the strokes Edward pulled he did me no harm so it was out of order for those (zb) at the Mirror to kick his memory and the poor bloke isn’t “cold” yet.Disgusting!! Bewick.

56 is too young to die. He provided employment for many many drivers for a lot of years, he will be missed.

Don’t you find 56 a limited age for a trucker to die at?

Obituary in the Daily Telegraph.

telegraph.co.uk/news/obituar … obart.html

R.I.P. Edward.
I preferred working under Edward, the company wasn’t so big,and seemed a lot more personable, you could talk to management.
Wished we’d go back to the days of shirts and ties as we’d get rid of some of the grebo’s that work here straight away.
Edward was a stickler for standards and I respected him a lot for what he’d done for the image of the truck driver.
I think a fitting tribute would be to paint one of the new trucks in the old colours.
I think he was one person who people have an opinion on whether good or bad.
56 is no age.

love him or hate him he was a grafter?
AN THE NAME LIVES ON

Cant agree with you more Jase, should go back to shirt and tie"s,the state some drivers class as tidy is beyond me.Edward raised the profile of us drivers and dragged us away from the rigger boots and jeans culture,a top bloke and will be missed R.I.P

rip edward hope the decent thing is done and a truck gets named in your honour

used to work nights outa dartford for a while…i will admit at times before i went to work there i used to get ■■■■■■ at the number of contracts he took away from other hauliers…but either way u have to give the man credit for all he achieved…if you are honest…i would say a financial logistics wizard
