East Hull companies

Does anyone know any companies around east hull (or within 1hr drive) that take on young drivers tramping ? Cheers what are bowker, D&P, loadtec, Harrison solway like ? Cheers

Hiya mate, I’m at D&P on Class 2 pallets. Not sure if we’re taking on at the moment, but there’s no harm in asking, if you go to the yard and actually speak to the gaffer you might get lucky, that’s what I did

If you get on with Driverhire in Hull, you might be able to get into Middlegate tramping as holiday cover. I know a guy that was being used quite regularly during the week for cover.

I know a lot of guys that wont touch Harrison Solway or K & J with a bargepole if their life depended on it. But everybodys different.

There’s a few small/cowboy firms around the Hessle area that do a lot of Samskip container stuff. Not sure if its tramping as such and the money is crap £6.50 per hour ish. Might be worth a drive around the industrial estate opposite Asda and show your face in a few places.

Longs of Leeds have a depot East Hull too but I think their a bit more picky regards perm drivers.

I’ll add that a kid at Loadtec put me on to D&P, and he seemed pleased with his lot, they always seem to be busy, got some good tackle as well.

a fella left middlegate on friday, so there may be an opening

Basically ill be looking at moving there within a couple of months upto 6 hopefully before, just wonderd what it’s like for work around that area, I’ve seen a few companies down the hedon road area but not sure what kind of pay etc
They are getting cheers for info

I’d go for the hours’ drive first :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

You’d be better off in the long term finding work outside the area because IMO, Hull is purely and simply a dump inhabited by third-rate businesses and bone-idle chavs with very low standards. And if that sounds a touch strong, it isn’t. I moved here 5 years ago and recently changed jobs after 3 years of driving in Hull. (If it hadn’t have been for my OH who saved me from the nuthouse, I would never have moved here at all :imp: ) I have a 2 hour drive to North Yorkshire on a Sunday night/Monday morning, I’m out all week and it’s the best move I ever made. The firm I worked for previously looked after me last year when both my parents died, but looking back, they’re typical of Hull companies: small-minded, no ambition, and not much idea!!

If you’re struggling, try Steve Youngmans. He runs white and blue Renaults and subs to TEPS on Freightliner Road. It’s mainly containers so no intelligence or strong work ethic is needed, but he can’t hang on to drivers. I stood it 3 months…

I wouldn’t mind travelling an hour in what ever direction if I was out all week, it’s only early doors yet but better to get looking sooner rather than later to get an idea, I’d be living out in the burstwick thorngumbald area

You deserve a medal for being able to drive a wagon with just one eye… :unamused:

If you canna get the start in Ull, you will never get a start anywhere.

Haha who would be the better one(s) to work for in the area , pay, conditions etc …

Not sure who the cowboy firms was aimed at but i work for loadtec and it certainly ain’t us!

We don’t really have “trampers” mate we just do nights out when the job requires one. Could be home all week or out all week.
And we’re certainly not on £6.50 ph :unamused:
A vacancy only comes up at our place when a new motor comes … Says it all really

If your a new driver try Rob Hatfield ltd mate, he likes to give them a chance ,mere I started. Pm me for details if u wish

you could try Burstwick, it’s mostly only 7.5 tonnes work on the caravans, though they do have some artics for the motorhomes

K L &S Winter at Hedon. Mainly livestock wagons with a couple of tippers and a couple on ferry trailers. There’s no end of firms down Hedon road.

The only kind of work I have done before is gen haulage for a couple of month (enjoyed it going diff places) and palletways multidrop currently DD curtainsider used to be 18t rigid

Wouldn’t touch D&P with a bargepole, if you wanted to be treated like a child and have that arrogant little ginger zb in the office speak to you like your below him then go for it!!

D&P have their blue eyed boys, if you aren’t one of them then you will end up with the crap jobs, I used to work for them and if you look at my post’s then you will see the reason why I don’t rate them one little bit!!

Harrison solway’s don’t have many class two’s, Nigel rice might give you a chance, they did me and then they sacked me, lol.

Nope it wasn’t Loadtec I was referring too and tbh cant remember the names, but, after Wincanton lost Samskip in Hull, I went for a couple of jobs down Freightliner Road doing exactly the same job and it was £6.50 for the first 50 hours. Ended up with a £26k 48hr gig on animal feed before my current circumstances took control.

Have done D & P on agy and as long as I spoke to them professionally they reciprocated. Had issues with K & J cancelling shifts with no notice. Never had any probs with Longs of Leeds. CEVA are decent at Crown Paints. JME doing International Timber is fine as long as the ■■■■ in the office has learned a bit of respect in the last year. None of these have been nights out for me but mostly long hours and local to East Hull.

I did two days at Harrison Solway through agency last year and refused to go back for third what a bunch
I had the phone slammed down on me when I told them I was on my break with the response of what ever just before it went silent haha

This. You can earn £2-£3/hr more than they pay in Hull just by travelling 30 miles up the road to Goole. The pay in Hull for haulage must be one of the lowest in the country. As soon as you get past the humber bridge the rates shoot up, even as close as Melton.

Well that tells us all we need to know about why you had problems at D&P. You’ve got to be a monumentally crap driver to get the sack from Nigel Rice’s. I didn’t think it was actually possible to be sacked from there.
