Start shift at 00.00, 9.5 hours driving, 2 x 45 min breaks finish work at 11.15. return to work for next shift after 11 hours rest which makes it 22.15 start. drive another 1.5 hours before midnight.
to me that equals 11 hours driving in a 24 hour period. which I’m guessing would be illegal.
Am I right??

No you are wrong.
There is nothing in the regulations to prevent you driving 13+hrs

Yes and no, it is 11hrs driving in a 24hr period, but it’s not illegal.
You can only drive upto 9hrs (10 extended) between 2 rest periods, NOT in a 24hr day

A vosa man told me only 10 hours drive in 24 hour period, but I think its a very grey area.

Can’t see why, if you’ve got the option of a reduced rest, and you drove 9hrs (obviously with a 45 min break), had 9hrs off, what would you be expected to do for the next 5hrs??

Nothing grey at all and “THE VOSA MAN” was talking out of his arse
The only mention of a 24 hour period is that it must have 11 hours uninterrupted rest within it. This rest period can be reduced to 9 hours three times between two weekly rest periods.
Grey areas are only used when the prat discussing them doesn’t know the rules.
Well my tacho seems to think that the 24hr period runs from 00:01-00-00.

Wonder if the VOSA man has done his DCPC?

From 561/2006
‘daily driving time’ means the total accumulated driving
time between the end of one daily rest period and the
beginning of the following daily rest period or between a
daily rest period and a weekly rest period;
Nowt grey about that, couldn’t be more black and white.
Ten hours driving in 24 hours applies to Domestic Rules, not EU rules. The 24 hours begins when you start work and doesn’t necessarily align with the calendar day.

It has to start somewhere, it probably wouldn’t suit you either if it started at 3.26 until 3.25
Have you got the confirmed dates for your DCPC yet?

Ive heard this a few times lately from various people, a couple of whom are good friends and not known to bull ■■■■. One of them told me he’d been pulled by VOSA and told the same kine as above…

They probably heard it from the same VOSA man who is talking out of his arse.
Nothing has changed since 11th April 2007
As someone said earlier, you do a 10 hour drive, 90 minute breaks, then have 9 off, what are you going to do for the other 3h.30m
