In your own car on motorway, what’s that about ?
And why must you wear a big hi-viz jacket.
Top thread, would read again.

The biggest bug bear for me is when they are slightly slower then you, but either prat around when you go to overtake or sit in the middle lane with nothing else around them. Well, that’s nothing different, but as you’re not supposed to undertake it just adds more crap to the day!.
Although not sure on the travel at 55 save more fuel thing, my car on a nice long run at 70 will do 27mpg yet still does around the same at 60 so might as well give it the extra welly and do the speed limit. It’s the gear changing, braking and constant adjstment of the throttle that drinks the juice not cruising at a set speed.
All until get bored and plant it one (on the ‘autobahn’ mind!) when a friend in a Beemer things it’s great to be getting in the back seat with you
Although did go through some derestricted bits in September in Germany, now THAT was fun! Giving the Audi’s and such a run for their money in an MG ZT
60mph on a uncalibrated car speedo is probably about a genuine 55/56mph, same reason a lot of people on here get frustrated at folk for doing 35mph through 40mph average speed cameras, person in the car thinks they are doing 40.
That’s a really good point. My car speedo says about 5mph less than my sat nav!

I’ve recently driven a couple of lorries where the sat-nav reads more than the speedo. Which one is correct?

Could be a driver on his way to work?

Generally the sat nav.
I say Generally as if you are on a winding road you may not get a correct reading, however, a nice straight road will give correct readings.

Think it’s been done to death on here somewhere. I would go with the sat nav to be fair.

Probably the satnav, remember changing a set of worn out boots on the drive axle after a tacho calibration will give you a few mph more at the same revs.
a highways agency incident van 3.5 tonner? was doing 45 on the m4 the other day!!! bloody idiot
100% to the sat nav, my speedo read 97 while sat nav read 90, and mores the pity the radar gun of the speed cop who booked me also stated 90.
He showed it to me while sitting in the back of his car.
If they want to drive at 55mph let them . I am restricted to 52mph, so they will fly past me

Probably on overtime ,looking for work?

I think that is a more sensible speed for them, they are not driving along one mph below our speed limiters, their own posts say they drive at 50 - 55 to spot debris.
The French Patrouille does the same thing, picking up litter, cleaning toilets in the Aires and carrying cones & brooms in case of road closures or accidents
My findings are , if you are in a 3.5t van it don’t matter as you can overtake it, as in theory you could also with a truck which is restricted to 56mph( 90kmph ) so far no issues, but as already pointed out earlier, once a truck pulls out in order to overtake them, they then for some selfish reasoning decide to then speed up,that is until you once again are gaining on them further down the road, due to the fact that they are not capable of maintaining a steady speed or a safe distance from the vehicle in from of them if put in such a situation, or they just don’t like us truckers, many of the worst offenders i have found are typically of Asian, origin but that aside is unfortunately representative of your average car driver, who was given their license from a lucky bag, maybe as in the uk motorway driving is not part of the driving test and IMO it should be by now, it is on the continent
Ok so the speed issue has been debated, but why the large hi-vis jacket, is the interior light gonna fall on these fools heads, i see many walking round town centres with the bloody things on
Well apart from those who are employed in jobs that require those yellow/orange jackets(hi-vis) to be worn on site, commuting home>work or work>home , and a case of they can’t be bothered to remove them and nothing more i don’t particularly see any probs with them,
I have on occasions driven home after a shift, in the small hours wearing a hi vis waistcoat, purely because i couldn’t be bothered taking it off, maybe others do the same, but could be the reasoning behind some wearing hi-vis in a car

Sometimes I completely forget I’m wearing mine, especially after a few hours in FightLiner where you have to wear it in the cab (caan’t see a truck, but thank ■■■■ for the hi-vis )
Hiya …this 'll ruin everyones day…when we was driving at 60…70…75 78 mph all the driving was
much more fun and you was on the ball and wide awake…yes there was crashes but we had really bad brakes in those days. trailer was not compatable with the units… slower is safe …how is it the 20 mph steam engines crashed …no brakes.
when i was younger i would go down the slip at jct 18 on the M6… you would see another truck half a mile infront(yes only a odd one) that was your target can i pass him before the Knutsford services you was wide awake trying to get passed…yes made it with half a mile to spare. then some empty truck would pass you on a slight incline …i’ll get him back going over the thelwall Down hill in 13th. wow passed him only to be passed again…He was playing the same game …everyone was… but it was exciting . not like nowadays
creeping along behind eachother…if going north you’d see a smiths of maddiston(usually a AEC) in your mirror I see how far it takes him to pass me…it was’nt long!! no one could live with them. but you was wide awake playing this game. its time someone saw the light…we was’nt raceing no worse than some prat going one kilometer faster than another. he knows he can pass so he’s still raceing. F1 cars are raceing when
theres only 400ths of a second between them not even 2 kilomerets per hour.
Now I’am in big trouble but we all did it.
bad John
Between 55 and 70 in a modern car, the savings in fuel is absolute zero.
If folks are so concerned about fuel costs then bugger off on to public transport or walk
