Drivers hours question

Can I do a reduced 9 hour rest tonight, then a 10 hour drive tomorrow?

The other week I did a 10 hour drive (10.01 mins as had to move in the services - did a printout with explanation) and then a reduced rest of 9 hours but the next days driving carried on from the previous day’s. Reckon I must’ve fckked up? but it wasn’t deliberate so wrote on a print out.

Thanks.

Not sure without knowing more but watch your fortnightly allowance as well. You are only allowed 90 hours in any fortnight.

Fortnightly is well in. It’s just the issue of reduced rest then extended driving, and vice versa. Can one follow the other?

I’m only getting 9 hours rest tonight, so want to know if I can drive 10 tomorrow as I have a 4 hr 30 drive up to ■■■■■■■■

If you did your move less than 9 hours before you started todays drive then you haven’t had daily rest, which would stop your tacho resetting to the next day.
I don’t think you are allowed to move your vehicle under any circumstances during our rest period.

oops saw this happened last week please read todays drive as the next days drive.

Alsourdrive time has no effect on your daily rest.

.

Yes. Providing you have both a reduced break and a ten hour drive available.

Don’t see why not as long as you follow the formula

Breaks and rest

The main points of EU rules on breaks and rest are that you must take:

-at least 11 hours rest every day - you can reduce this to 9 hours rest 3 times between any 2 weekly rest periods

-an unbroken rest period of 45 hours every week - you can reduce this to 24 hours every other week

-a break or breaks totalling at least 45 minutes after no more than 4 hours 30 minutes driving

-your weekly rest after 6 consecutive 24-hour periods of working, starting from the end of the last weekly rest period taken

I think I’d had 9 hours even after the move, but because I’d gone over 10 hours (10:01) wondered if that had done it.

Cheers.

Yes you can reduce your rest to 9 hours up to 3 times between any two weekly rest periods so I don’t see the issue.

If I’m not sure I normally refer to this site as it explains everything very clearly. I have also spoken to Chris the guy who runs it a few times when I need a little confirmation. He will know more about whether you can move during a rest period.

Also the day in question I’d started at 6 and finished at 8.30 so 14.5 hours.

So basically 14.5 worked, 10 driven, then 9 rest.

You can do 10 hour drives twice a week
You can reduce to 9 hours rest 3 times a week

Provided you make up for your rest periods and don’t exceed the hours you can drive in any fortnight and keep track of your hours over 26 weeks etc. and comply with WTD I don’t see a problem

Christ you need a masters degree to drive a truck now :unamused:

You can reduce your daily rest period upto 3 times in any working week so upto 6 times in a fortnight is another way of putting it,

Yeah this still sounds ok to me. If you worked 14.5 hours then you still have 9.5 hours to use as rest in this 24 hour period which is fine.

So as the maoster said you just need to make sure that you still have a reduced rest and a 10 hour drive available based on the other shifts you have done.

I comfortably do. Tbh don’t record these things as I am just a day driver with a bit of flexibility. Almost never go over 9 hours driving, and almost never used reduced rest, or work over 13 hours.

For this reason I always eject my card, you never know when you will HAVE to move.

Not sufficient excuse. The only people who can tell you to move on a break are the police. Do print out, get copper to sign it.

It was my fault I had to move to be fair. Rolled into the services with only 5 minutes to spare as I wanted to clear the Dartford crossing. Then no spaces. Ended up parking by the tyre inflater at the filling station. Was told to move. Moved and eventually found a space next to a Fridge. :smiling_imp:

Not disputing that…in law…not really the point though.

I’ve moved to a different bay in services when a fridge has parked right next to me.
Or if in a layby, pulled forward if someone in front of me pulls out.
Or even to pull forward a touch so a fellow driver can get in behind me.

it’s between weekly rests fella! so with enough weekly rests you could reduce more than 6 times in a fortnight!

Just remember also anything worked over 13 hours is classed as reduced daily rest.
