Double manned / husband and wife teams

Does anybody on here know of any uk firms that have double manned or husband and wife teams?

Me and my partner both have class one licenses however during the week he lives near Reading and I live in the west midlands.
We’ve looked for work round my area for him but nothing is anywhere near the wages he is on now.

Uk or european work would be fine but would prefer to work for a company based over here. Distance no problem if we would be away for a few weeks at a time.

Thanks in advance for any replies

There was a company that used to have husband and wife teams double manning on the continent I think they are called Carr Brothers based in Northampton area give them a try. Sorry I don’t have any contact details.

Yes, ncooper is right. They had a husband and wife team doing gibraltar a few years back. Dougie and Jenny from dartford. Although I believe Jenny gave up driving to nurse her ill father, and Dougie is now an owner driver on solstor

this might sound like a daft idea for some, but stobarts are very much an image contious firm. getting women drivers in there is good for the image, and having a husband and wife team is very rare in the uk and europe. so email human resources, andrew tinkler, and marketing at the same time. you never know.
and if you do pull it off, just think how much money you’ll save. your other half won’t have to pay for it any more.

@ limeyphil. Pay for what exactly? Lol i see him every night for a few hours at work :grimacing:

at work eh? if it’s got cameras in the yard, that could be classed as dogging.

Never done that maybe i should try ( but dont you have to have the curtains open for that?) lol i can resist most of the time. Wouldn’t want the other drivers getting jealous now would we.

Back to topic though. I might try stobbies if i dont get anything from else where. Good idea thou

there was a time that willi betz had double manned lorries all over the uk. he would pay poles in the uk/germany etc at polish rates. it appears that he has been forced to pay the rate in accordance with where they’re working, not where they’re from. you have to apply direct to each depot.

Have you got any idea what kind of rates to expect. As i havent a clue really just thought i would do a bit of digging first.
(before making a ■■■ of myself)

S & J Pearce at Northampton area have had teams doing Milan trips

i’ve usually worked on trip money. i couldn’t see you making as much double manned as you would seperatly. i’ve done a lot of italy, 6 drops 6 collections (£650 net), all drops done by tuesday lunchtime, and nothing ready for collection until thursday. when that happens the extra money that you could have earned has gone.
i reckon you could earn some money if you worked for a tanker/tipper firm.
my wife has been with me all over europe, she wasn’t driving. the question on our minds was, could we live in the lorry together for a couple of weeks without killing each other.
we got on great. we both loved it. money didn’t seem to be an issue for a change.

sealane in dover had a husband and wife team for a while before they gave it up and bought a pub in ramsgate.

Ralph Davies Cheltenham used to

Thought of another one G.B.A they have a lot of double drivers they recently got a load of new xf105’s super space cabs. I’ve got a mate that works for them he recently sent me an email with the pay structure PM me if your interested and I will give you the info when I get home.

You are in the perfect position to drive for a racing team or promotional company. Weeks on the road and if your missus is any good at cooking some of the smaller teams such as Rally or lower than F1 look for such couples. … I almost applied for a job with Prodrive with my ex wife but she cooked like crap.

Some of the lads driving the 105 xf’s will not double man, so are single manned all the time, and they now no longer pay for Sundays (24hr reduced weekly rest) and compulsory driving bans is the likes of France ,Germany ect , nor do they pay if your parked up on a 45hrs rest , but you still get the tax free N/O

Also found out that the new daf’s replaced some if not all of the older CF’s So the fleet of artic’s may have increased in size but not by much
