Does this damage look like it was caused by a truck?

Allegedly I did this in a 26t flatbed builders merchant truck. To my mind the lowest point on the wagon is higher than this would be. But I’m not as experienced as most on here so want some feedback from those who know more.

Possible, but pretty unlikely, the bumper would more than likely be hanging off completely if you’d hit it.
Do they have proof it was you? If not… F.O

The amount of times I get blamed for stuff like this, the boss used to pay out on all of them, until I told him if that’s how little faith he has in me, I might as well walk.
If I hit something, I own up to it.

Currently ever owned up once in 20 years.

Apparently, the car owner saw me hit it and chased me down the road for 250m before I ‘sped off’. However, I have no recollection of this and think he is lying through his back teeth.

Take it your talking about tailswing ■■? The lowest part of mine at the back is the leg and it’s 15 inch from the floor sitting with approx 4ton on its back . So it’s looking like someone is trying it on

What you should say Sammy is “Nah mate wasn’t me I always do a proper thorough job, if that’d been me it’d look more like this”

And no that wasn’t me images grabbed from >> walesonline.co.uk/news/wale … n-14972994

No idea - I genuinely don’t think I hit it. It would either be my front bumper or tailswing. I’d expect a LOT more damage from either even if I’d grazed it.

Although I´ve not driven wagons for a while, I´d say it´s a try on. I have no proof of that, just doesn´t look right for a hacking from a tailswing.

Tell him you´ll repair it with yer hiab, Sammy

It’s possible it is damage caused by a truck, especially a rear steer 6wheeler on builders merchants with an inexperienced driver at the helm.

However, you have stated that you were not aware that you hit anything at the approximate time.

State your case to them then leave it to the insurance Co’s &/or the agency & merchants. Don’t you DARE pay anything or forfeit any wages, regardless of any so called ‘pay for damages’ conditions in anything that you may or may not have signed. If you do then you may as well give them everything you’ve got, they’ll take it all eventually anyway.

P.S.
Do any of the cams on the vehicle at least confirm the car was in a position that you could hit it at the time of your delivery?

Here is where it gets funny - the company are saying it will take 2 weeks to review the footage!

And don’t worry I won’t be paying a penny. Already confirmed this with the agency. My wages for that shift will hit my bank on friday.

I personally can’t see how it’s possible. The tailswing hight is higher than that mark. It’s a good 3 ft off the ground.

Pics of the truck would help, or even a pointer to the BM, but I’ve never seen one without a low under run bar at the rear.

My old Jewsons truck (55plate Merc) used to have side lights on little rubber stalks fastened to the end of the bar, like these : ebay.co.uk/itm/2X-12V-6LED- … 3031747024

When you were in a tight spot, which was often, you just switched the lights on & kept an eye on when the stalk started to bend.

If the BM is who I think it is then they are most certainly self insured, which is true of all the large BM’s. So any arguing is going to be between them & your agency, who have you well insured for damage, unless you on one of those pseudo self-employed pay schemes?

Was TP - and I was in one of their ‘new’ wagons which looks more like a bus.

I’m covered financially. But I don’t think they do self insure - they wanted all my details for their insurance.

Could it of been the tyre of your truck that caught it?

Was thinking that. Not much hack attack damage, mebbe a bit rubbed by rubber?

Without evidence, there’s no case, ask to see the proof, if they continue let it go to court, no proof or evidence, or a witness that Mr car driver isn’t related too.

It won’t go much further without proof/ evidence.

I did that the other day all it left was a scratch on the truck

Had the same twenty years ago, first day out in a new Merc, supposedly hit a car that was in a queue as I went past, strange really, not a mark could be found on my vehicle, the wing mirror of the car was untouched, yet a foot long dent just above the sill of this Citroen was what I supposedly did, and they had witnesses :open_mouth: the dent was covered about six months worth of rust and was not even of a consistent depth, was more of a gouge done when reversing on a lock into a low post, coppers come, instead of charging her with attempted insurance fraud they just said, give her your details and let the insurance companies sort it.

This seems to be getting more and more common, people picking a passing truck and trying to accuse them of damage.

I had one the other week at the shell garage J9 M40 to A34. He told me I had knocked his mirror off and then by the time I went to take a photo it had miraculously leapt off the floor and re-attached itself to the car.

Work reckon if it was me the car would be in bits so insurance told him to foxtrot oscar

Doesn’t seem to stop them trying it on though

Go back tomorrow and do the damage properly

yes sammy you did catch his bumper , you also caught mine , I couldnt run after you as at 57 yrs old I’d more likely have a heart attack than catch you up , don’t worry it’s not the end of the world , accidents do happen , even though I’ve only had the bloody thing 2 days , if you could pm me details , place it happened , time , weather etc it would be much appreciated , I’ll hand them in Friday when I get back fri
nb can’t pm ( premod ) so I’ll give your insurance company details of all my injuries should they / or our company request them

Looks like a nasty case of whiplash there, dozy! :open_mouth:
