Doctors on wheels, must be a slow news day

the article seems to be making them out to be a bit iffy. I did my medical a couple of years ago with Doctors on wheels and found the service to be fine, certainly better than being fleeced by my GP. :unamused:

I paid £35 for a doctor in m, Keynes. My own doctors wanted £125 :open_mouth:

Just by the van, from a firm called Doctors on Wheels, there was a large pile of rubbish on which rats eagerly nibbled on discarded food

And this affects the quality of the medical how exactly?

Still, at least it gives the typical coffin-dodging Daily Express reader a break from the endless round of Madelaine McCann, Princess Diana, new drug warding off dementia and house price joy stories. :stuck_out_tongue:

I suppose I’m one of the lucky ones. I get my medical and driver cpc free. The company even pays for my digi card.

I used Doctors on wheels with no problems.
A quick phone call, medical booked on a Saturday so no need for time off work.
They provide a good service.
If it is an ice cream van or Transit, does it matter. Some drivers can not get time off so they offer a service where drivers work.
A test done on your 45 min tacho break.
What is wrong with that.?

You can’t really class Doctors on Wheels as a proper medical, they simply fill in & sign the form, the most they have to do is check your blood pressure, urine and eyesight. But if that’s all it needs then why pay through the nose for your own doctor to do it? If you are concerned about needing it done properly then get the D o W guy to fill in the form to send off and then just book a free appointment with the Well Man Clinic at your own GP.

Could it be that old chestnut of ‘supply and demand’ or ‘needs as needs must’?

Those that pay themselves will obviously want ‘value for money’ whilst those that get it paid for don’t really care!

Remember that if things go to plan, GP’s will be obsolete, this will be normal for those wanting to get routine stuff done. Just think how much the economy will benefit when those expensive surgeries are closed to save money. Remember they already contract out loads of stuff to the private sector anyway so why not routine medical stuff in mobile surgeries?

Our brave new world!

saw them did they…

Well the reporter could have got the story right …
Drivers Fleeced by British Government seek cheaper medicals.

or

Typical unsuitable parking for truckers,
large pile of rubbish on which rats eagerly nibbled on discarded food

I have never had a medical I the back of a van but always used the cheaper medical service.
I’ve found them to normally use a spare room at a private clinic properly equipped .Desk, chair, eyesight board, BP cuff, stethoscope, pen, paper I mean what more do you want , ecg full hazmat medical team in case you have the galloping trots :unamused:
Oh and £5 of the medical went to Help 4 Heroes

That’s all your own GP does :open_mouth:

Heard a rumour that help for heroes is a business too?

Is every charity not a business
They all do the same thing sale stuff to raise money…
Then use that money to buy a product / property etc …

It would help if you could actually book to see your GP, there is no flexibility with them, they don’t realise that normal people work during the day, they should open Saturday and Sundays I reckon, my doctors car park looks like a supercar showroom as well.

Makes no difference if you do it in a van or in a office it’s the same tests done by the same qualified people. Only difference is the price! Our drivers go to the doctor that the company’s pays 150pound for and they are kicked out within 5 minutes. Nae difference at all.

See the only difference is the fta see someone making money out of hgv drivers and they don’t have a slice of it! FTA and the RHA don’t give a bloody hee haw about drivers!

Love how they mention the doctor is Romanian. Should see my gp surgery in townhead there is about 8 doctors and only 2 of them are British fur Christ sakes.

I had my drivers medical with this company, didnt have any issues, only thing I found strange was that if they didnt get a urine sample bottle to you, via the post, before your appointment then you had to provide a sample in your own sample bottle, mine was a lucozade bottle and I passed the medical  , having said that though the sample could have been anyones!

Your lucky, the only English staff at ours are the receptionist and nurses.

Another example of ripping people off just to do their job. It should be a free medical.

Hiya…did the 19 year old girl do her own doctor for a medical aswell…I’ve done both, i think the doctor on wheels
asked enough questions checked my blood pressure and did a eye test.
for three times the amount of money(£145)5 years ago i got no better test at my GP,s.

i had a pal go to his G P for his medical (at 60) he passed with flying colours,
he died a week later with a heart attack, John never had any heart problems in his life.
does any one know the outcome of ones life…i don’t know of any doctor who’ll say you’ll live from one medical to
the next one in 5 years time.

Same as above. Rang and appointment made to see Doc. It was close, lorrypark in Bury St Edmunds on a Saturday morning. I enquired at my local GP about LGV medical, and having got through the “reception police” on the front desk i was told £140. Decided to go with Docs on wheels. Urine sample was posted and sample given just before i left home to see Doc. The whole procedure was quick and professional, little abrupt, but i was there for business and not social. The Doc completed everything he lawfully had to and i went home with a medical and a few more quid in my pocket. Downside, you could be a little dishonest on urine sample, but thats your call.
I did get ribbed at work, asking if he was a proper Doctor or just a white van man with a fetish for ■■?

   Had my medical done by D o W in a layby just outside Poplar 2000 with no problem whatsoever. Bloody Express always looking for a way to ■■■■ in someones pint

Had mine done with D O W at the truckers rest at Cannock, didn’t have to pay either the company paid up front for it .
I didn’t have a problem with it, they checked everything required by law.
