best wishes for a quick recovery Dieseldave and Vincent
It’s hard to take when something bad strikes one’s child. Lady Luck is the cruelest and most powerful of the redheaded angels, but sometimes she changes her mind and shows mercy. We all need to wake her up from her nap and give her a shake and a kiss.

I’ll be calling you tomorrow…
Denis F:
there’s no need for threats like that.
You guys are too funny.
All the best, Dave and Vincent!
Hi everybody, time for a little update after speaking to Vincent again…
In the way that kids often forget to tell their parents important stuff, Vincent has given me a little update about the effects of the medication he’s been prescribed.
For the first week, he was to take ■■ dose once per day, then after one week he was told to double the dose, but to still keep to taking it just once per day.
The Dr did warn him in advance of the possible side-effects, and they seem to have kicked in now that he’s taking the increased dose-size. Vincent tells me that he’s having many more dreams than normal and that he’s sleeping for 15-18 hours per day.
At the worst time of the ‘migraines’ a while ago, his employer lost patience with what must have seemed to them to be Vincent’s absenteeism, so they dispensed with his services. The thing that’s now worrying me about all this is that I’m wondering what will happen when Vincent’s current sick-note runs out in about a fortnight…
The reason for my fear is that Vincent tells me that he’ll be on this medication for anywhere between 6-12 months.
Being realistic, I’m thinking that Vincent won’t be much good to almost any employer in his current state, but will his sick-note be renewed for such length of time as he has to take this level of medication?
If the Dr doesn’t renew the sick-note, I’m not sure what the JSA people will make of somebody who needs this much sleep in a day.

Cannot see a problem in the doc giving a sick note.
The JSA is likely to be changed to ESA (the old incapacity benefit)
Which drug is he taking, if you don’t mind me asking?

Hi Lucy, I don’t mind you asking at all…
The answer is that he hasn’t told me yet, but I will ask next time I speak to him.
I’ll post it up just as soon as I know.

I’ve booked my appointment to speak to Vincent about this too.
The problem is that his sleep pattern is somewhat unpredictable, so there aren’t very many time-slots available in Vincent Van Winkle’s diary.

Do that. We here want to know, also. Cheater is a nurse when we are not on the road, and I have a Cuban doctor I can discuss with.
2nd Q: Where does Vincent live? Is he close-by?

Hi Lucy, My latest request for a chat has finally been granted.
Vincent is taking amitriptyline in 1 X 20mg dose per day.
Apparently, Vincent came within a whisker of having to notify DVLA of his condition, but the hospital consultant has advised that he needn’t now do that.
BTW, he has a post-97 “B” licence.
In other advice from the hospital, Vincent has been told to anticipate being on this treatment for 6-12 months.

Hi John, It’s called ‘amitriptylene,’ but I wouln’t have a clue as to whether it has the same name in the USA.
The dose is 1 X 20mg per day, and I’ve put a couple of other snippets in my answer to Lucy above.

Vincent lives within a mile radius of where I live, so visits aren’t problematic.
Hello dave. I was prescribed amitryptiline for nerve damage in my leg last year.
Apparently it has many uses but the side effects for me outweighed the benefits
As vincent has found it knocks you out for long spells and i had the added fun of feeling like i was drugged when i woke
I took it for a week before stopping. I hope vincent has a better reaction to it

Hi JB, I haven’t actually seen Vincent for a few weeks, but having spoken to him on the phone several times, I can say that he doesn’t sound as if he’s ‘drugged,’ if you know what I mean.
Vincent is due to visit me on Sat or Sun, so I’ll have a better discussion with him then and post up some more details about the side-effects that he has.
My info about amitriptyline is also that it has many uses, but in your case, it might have been a question of dosage. I hope your Dr came up with an alternative for you.
