I stumbled across the site by pure accident after googling Torridge Transport lorries and it brought pictures up that have been put on this site. Having looked at the pictures i felt compelled to register - i have alot of Torridge Seddon Atki pics as my dad worked for them - you may or may not have heard of him - he was called Richard Thornely - but probably better known as Hank. Tragically Dad died in 1996 - fatal accident down in Plymouth when the fell off the load he was sorting out. Anyhow i have digressed - i have several pictures of the lorries dad drove during his time at Torridge - a Foden, Seddon Atkis and last wagon he drove was a G plate Strato. Dad always kept his lorries immaculate and took great pride and joy in looking after his wagons. When i sort through the pictures i will look to get them uploaded to here as i am sure they are worth a look.

G’day Looby mate,
Glad to here you found the site and this thread. I grew up in Tiverton an used to see lots of Torridge’s motors on the road. Hope you can get you pics scanned and up on here mate.
All the best Jamie
I remember your Dad well from the SWT ‘do’s’ and from being in the same business and area. We used to load out of IFS all the time alongside him. I was gutted when he had the accident, and we were only talking of Hank a couple of days ago. I am gobsmacked that it was in 96… I thought it was after that. Time moves on, I suppose. Nice to see you on here. Will be great to see some of your pics.
Thanks for posting those pics Bubbs D36 FAE was driven by my dad (Hank) as was CFJ 430Y but i think that picture was taken after Dad had it, as he had knights heads, etc on the front of it. K386 STA was driven by my cousin Ben who still works for Torridge now. Not 100% sure on the Merc, but i do recognise the Seddons. Brings back some very fond memories for me
MolePower:
got a few pics here & all but one of the companies are still going
& a rather battle scarred ex-ken king bulk blower
was that a J reg, if so I remember it delivering feed to us when it was brand new ! (in my cow milking days)
i think it is a J ,i got a pic of when it was re-sprayed, as it was yellow with green stripes before ken got it in his fleet colours after selling off most of his fleet

Looby
HI LOOBY ! i remember your dad, when i used to ride with my dad he was a remarkable man as you said always kept his lorry mint . my dad used to work with him at J Watts cattle of LANDKEY in the 70’s then later used to see him when my dad worked for Evans transport, a true loss when taken from us . if i remember rightly he had a very loud pair of train horns. i often see geoff cowill (seagul) francais pedlar and peter ellis (hagar) they always talk about your dad love hearing the stories of the old days . Geoff showed me his photos will ask him to put some up on here pretty sure you will like what he as . looking forward to seeing ur photos of your dads lorries . Andrew.
as mentioned earlier in this thread, John Evans {Evans Transport} had a brother Michael, whom i had the pleasure of driving for from 1988 to 1995.
I started on a 6 wheel bucket, helped to build parts of the N.Devon link Rd, and the Barnstaple inner ring road, then Michael bought this for me to drive, and i spent the next 6 years tramping all over the UK.
Taken in our yard, where all the Fertiliser was stored,{used to get Timac boats in from France that tipped at Bideford, then reloaded with China clay}
past Evans {Bidna Yd} thru the narrow wiggly bit, we had to reverse in, turn in the yard, then reverse out.
Phill was another driver that took the step of Owner Driver, used to drive the F10? and as you see had his own trailer.
Sadly Michael was killed in a RTA on the M6. early '95?
{RIP Michael, for any that knew him, one of his catchprase’s “That’ll be alright, we’ll do it Saturday…”
