Stand back,I feel a lot of pictures coming on!
YOU MAY BE RIGHT THIS IS SUCH A GREAT SITE OF OLD TIME TRUCKS THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP
hope you enjoy these ones
john57:
W E Shaplands were from near Barnstaple, they ran a few 4 wheelers, closed down in the mid 80’s i think.
They were from Landkey and use to specialise in flour distribution, they did run a Volvo artic aswell, first they had a “J” reg Volvo F88 then they had one of the first F10,s “S” reg then a second hand “Y” reg F12.
You’re so right big bear, i remember the artics now. In my defence I said near Barnstaple because people are more likely to know where that is.
Dave the Renegade:
Have a look at the tips on how to post pics by ROG, on this forum Jamie10, you are nearly there, just missing a copy or paste click by the looks.
there was an extra bit if code in one and Jamie had ticked the disable bbcode box on another
both fixed now
Well done Jamie10,great pics.see its easy to put pics on .Thats good coming from one who threw the teddy out the pram on more than one occasion when I tried first
Some Hottots
Again the old livery was better.
Cheers Bubbs.
G’day,
Nice Gregorys pics mate, the 113 is the same one that Bubbs posted, the ex Smythe motor.
Found another of AGC from Cullompton, taken in their yard in 1990.
Tidy looking Merc from Hayman’s taken in Tiverton July 1991.
F H Baker of Cullompton ran a few of these Renaults,1990 again in their yard.
Cheers Jamie,oh yeah with these last three pics it makes 250 on this thread.
Thanks for the photos chaps But i,m suprised that there are none of Broads from Plymouth
Use to do a lot of market work with “Essery” (Alan) out of Covent Garden back in the early 80’s. He was a chap who could get a quart in a pint pot when it came to loading fruit on a 40ft flat
Hi again, heres a few more…heres Brian in front of his Roadtrain
Cheers Bubbs.
Superb thread, and I thank all of you with pics.
The one taken at truckfest with the Thompsons Foden and the edge of the Renault amused me a bit. I used to be great friends with the Renault driver, but he isn’t all he seems. He went to Polaards and drove the 143 after leaving Thompsons. The Foden was Steve Roberts, a top bloke and if anyone knows how to get in touch with him, Phil or Jim, please let me know.
There is one of my temporary trucks on here, STA 61X, the 2300 Daf. I had that one briefly while at Thompsons.
Luxton and Coombes were taken over by a man I have known for years. I hadn’t heard that he had gone under and am sorry to hear it now.
Gregorys makes me laugh. Some may remember me as the person who asked John G if they were going to put the name on the underside of their trucks after a spate of rollovers back in the mid 90s. He was not impressed but I wasn’t ordered offsite.
How is it that there is only one of Freddies on here? I was going to work for him at one point but was told I would not be allowed in the house again if I did…
Brian Harris is one of the nicest people I ever met. I hope he is doing OK. And Thompsons were great to work for. I still speak to Joff and Jeff Moore sometimes. Good people.
I did manage 3 months for Bryans back in 92, but we came to a parting of the ways after they loaded ice cream on my truck which had thawed then refrozen. Keith and I had… erm… words, then Peter John and I had words… but Roger decided to stay indoors.
Good times, good memories.
My thanks.
I see Brain Harris’s ERF A Series has a Jennings sleeper cab, what were they like to use for a week away, i doubt they had any heaters etc.
Hello again,Davnic has very kindly sent me his pics to put on trucknet, here are a few Devon motors.
Thanks to Dave for sharing his stuff.
Cheers Bubbs.
G’day
Nice pics again mate, the A series with the pigeon loft is a ripper and with rope and sheet, blokes today don’t know how lucky they are. I still laugh at Globetrotter cabs on tippers. I’ve found a few tippers today, both from Exmouth.
Old’s fan a few of these Constructors, taken in Tiverton 1990,note that the Luxton and Coombes Scania next to it is one that Bubbs posted earlier with the red bulker.
Leese’s ran a great mixed fleet of 4,6 and 8 wheelers,a lot of their work seemed to be demolition,I remember them having a great looking Bedford KM four wheeler, any photos Bubbs?
Fianaly on oldie parked up,taken up at Winkleigh Aero Drome in 89,I think it was H reg and a six wheeler, which would make it a Hippo.
Cheers I’m off to wash me anarak Jamie
TWO MORE GREGORYS MERCEDES 1633 ON B REG AND A VOLVO FL10
G’day,
Nice Smythe/Gregory Wendy house Jamie10 mate, looks like the Severn Bridge is it?
I’ve found an early pic, taken in 87 in Tiverton of a AGC Merc, looks like an after market sleeper.
Here’s a mob that have not been on here yet, this is the only time I recal seeing them, taken at Exeter services in 1990.
And another new firm,I think Ace Tip were from Exeter? Anyone? Not sure what they carted in the tankers, waste of some sort maybe? Taken in Tivy truck park again 1990.
I was having a flick through some old mags looking for some pics for the ■■■■■■■ thred and I found these.
Sure was a big bit of gear being an ‘E’ for Extra, with double hub reduction. I worked for a mining company in Western Australia back in 96,they had 8x4 143E side tippers 470’s and 500’s with 18 speed Roadrangers on road train work pulling three trailors, good bits of gear, the arse end was bullet proof. The cabs did suffer from vibration with the rough dirt roads though. Quite often three of these triples would be joined with stiff bars when crossing rivers,it worked in a push-pull effect,a sight to be seen.
Cheers Jamie
Michael Evans Transport.
as mentioned earlier in this thread, John Evans {Evans Transport} had a brother Michael, whom i had the pleasure of driving for from 1988 to 1995.
I started on a 6 wheel bucket, helped to build parts of the N.Devon link Rd, and the Barnstaple inner ring road, then Michael bought this for me to drive, and i spent the next 6 years tramping all over the UK.
Taken in our yard, where all the Fertiliser was stored,{used to get Timac boats in from France that tipped at Bideford, then reloaded with China clay}
past Evans {Bidna Yd} thru the narrow wiggly bit, we had to reverse in, turn in the yard, then reverse out.
Phill was another driver that took the step of Owner Driver, used to drive the F10? and as you see had his own trailer.
Sadly Michael was killed in a RTA on the M6. early '95?
{RIP Michael, for any that knew him, one of his catchprase’s “That’ll be alright, we’ll do it Saturday…”
FOUND SOME MORE GREGORYS FROM THE LATE 80S EARLY 90S
Great pics there, brilliant . ACE-TIP were from Honington, Devon, not sure what they carried but they also ran bulk trailers. Me and a mate have got a C series that was last owned by them.
