Hiya, yep Jim ,I can see a resemblance with the Monkhouse motor, the M and D F88 was a second hand one,who knows it may have come from Monkhouse.Good pics from Jamie, heres a few more from me,please excuse the quality :unamused:

Hope these are ok.

Cheers Marc.

G’day,
good pics again mate,I remember seeing that Hayman Renault about, they used to cart farm equipment out of MST [Medland saunders and twose],say that in your best Devonian accent!,good Devon names them. MST were and probably still are the Massey Fergusan agents in Tiverton. I also recal seeing M Way’s orange bulkers about, they also had a high top FL10,which was faily odd at the time.
No dramas about the quallity of pics Bubbs, yours are all good, besides a bad photo is better than no photo.
Ok deepest darkest West Devon today. First up Edworthy’s of Bow,another good Devonian name. The pic was taken in thier yard in 91. They had a smart fleet of ERF and volvo bulkers, are they still running? They used to have Crusaders back in the day. Another Bow firm was Mid Devon Haulage, the gear always looked well worked, this early 2 series was taken in Tiverton in 1990,check out the Bow phone number?,she’s not a big place Bow!
Next up is Simpsons of Chawleigh,I like this old banger, looks like she’s done the hard yards carting logs,Simpson’s also ran quite a few B series ERF’s,the shot was taken in thier yard in Sep 1990. Finaly Bowdens of Oakhampton, they ran some fairly old gear on logs, this shot is from a magazine, does anyone have anymore pics of thier motors?
Cheers Jamie

J.T.Evans(blue trucks) were running 2 Daf`s in 2005 a space cab & super space cab as they were pullin for Gregorys same time as me,but a year or so bac i saw a Stralis in there colours

nice pics everyone - good to see the local stuff

just a thought - has anyone got any pics of John Watt’s Livestock trucks ( J Watts & Sons)

G’day
I’ve found another of Bowdens 1418 Benz’s I think it came from a callender.

Another of Billy Hockin’s Volvo’s taken in Tiverton 1990

Torridge Strato,this was the replacement for the 400 with a 401 grill that I and John57 posted earlier,again taken in Tiverton,March 1991.

AGC also ran the white Magnums that were posed earlier, this was taken in thier cullompton yard in 1990.
Cheers Jamie

Steve

G’day,
good effort again Bubbs mate,I reckon there would be a fair few grumpy people if you give up your scrapbook thread, can’t see it happening myself. Oh yeah don’t forget somerset,I’ve a few shots,so I’m sure you do mate?
Bowdens must have ran a few of those 1418 Benz’s,I saw one last week here in Wellington, there are still a few around, I’ve spent the last three years working in Western Australia and there are quite a few still working there too.
Bit of a mixed bag today.

One of Frank Tuckers old A seriers taken in 89 at Winkleigh Aero drome, which is one place you have to go if your into old trucks and buses. There are heaps of old bits of gear waiting to be resored, there used to be an open day once a year, where they took the old buses out for a run.
Tuckers were the ERF agent in Exeter, they were bought out by Evans’ [the green ones] who were running trucks out of the Exeter yard.

One of Wally Balsdon’s heavy haulers, this was actualy a F89 that had had a fair bit of work, hence the ‘P’’ reg number plate. There was a write up in Trucking International about it,you can see the mag spread out in the windscreen. I’ll have a look for the artice, but I think I’ve lost it. If someone has it please post it.
I took this one as Truckfest Southwest 1990.

Finaly one of many that I have of Luxton & Coombes of Tiverton. I used to go out for the day in this one quite a bit,I remember tipping scrap at Birds scrap yard in Avonmouth docks one day and then going for a huge feed at Birds’ cafe,is that cafe still going? Taken in Tiverton 1990.
Cheers Jamie

Nice pics Jamie, found these cuttings which relate to the thread

Will try to post some proper pics later.

Cheers Bubbs.

Steve

a lot were green Renaults - slightly darker shade than Evan’s

Hello again,a few more from me.

Cheers Bubbs.

G’day.
top pics mate,in the Evans wendy house shot there is a 1 Series Scania in the background do you have a shot of it mate? I remember both of those Luxton & Coombes motors, probably been under both of them too with a grease gun. When I was 16 at tech I used to day a week in the workshop ,but given any chance of a day out and I’d be strait up in the cab. A good mate of mine who I went to Tech with is the big noise in their workshop now.
Brian Coombes sold up a few years ago,but the name Luxton and Coombes was retained. So a few more of them from me.

By the looks of this young fella,I was 10 or 11,so this puts it at 85 or 86,by this time I’d been taking truck photos for a couple of years. L&C ran three 111’s,two sleepers and a day cab.

Same truck, she sure was tidy for being seven years old

They had a couple of these Gardener powered Haulmaters on scrap, they were both Known as Jenny, due to the number plate. The other one was burnt out in a cab fire.Taken in the old yard in 88

Very tidy looking F86 for you Bubbs mate, this is the only photo I got of it sadly, they used it heaps on the Link road from jct27 to Tiverton and then the North Devon link road.
She sat in the new yard for a year or so and I last saw it in about 92.
Behind it is the burnt out Jenny Foden.
Cheers Jamie

i love the photos of madderns transport and stofords great forum

Luxton & Coombes finished a little while ago now.

G’day,
Big Bear did they finish up compleatly? I know they got bought out about two years ago,a farmer from Cornwall bought the firm. How long ago did they finish up mate?
Cheers Jamie

Hello again, heres the red 140 you wanted Jamie, plus a few more including a Watts Renault.

Hope these are ok

Cheers Marc.
