Hi Folks, Here is another name for the list. Jimmy Sherrington, Who was Yans brother in law. Hereā€™s a photo of his 86 after an accident up Durham way. It was a head on collision and Jimmy suffered a broken leg.
Kenny, What enginerse would be in the 1946 Atkinson that Roger rebuilt, a 4 cylinder or a 6 cylinder?

Hi Bill Dents never had a 6 wheel double bogie only twin steers, they had 5LW Gardners in.If the steering wheel was all over on tickover it was a 5LW if it faily steady it was a 6LW. It had a 5 speed direct drive David Brown gear box and Kirkstall double drive rear axles.
After Jimmy Sherrington left he got a F86 unit and tipper trailer as a owner driver. One friday night he hit a overhead gantry and broke his windscreen. On the saturday morning he got the windscreen people out to fit a new one, then he came to me at West Aucland to change his turbo for him.I told him to lift the cab ,while he waited of me.he had put the tubo on the bunk. it fell off and it broke his hour old windscreen. Regards Ken

Hello All

Iā€™m Ronnie Mooreā€™s son Darren. Youā€™ll probably all remember me being with Dad in the wagon during the school holidays and working in the garage
Hereā€™s some photos of Dents motors from the '80:

Dad in A546DDC going south at Wetherby with a load of fertiliser from ICI when it was new (the one burnt out on the previous photoā€™s), Rolly at DIsforth, Mickey Toth at Bramham and Billyā€™s old motor at Normans. Iā€™ve some more photos somewhere so will find them out and post them up.

Ronnie has a message for John McNallyā€¦can you remember the tangerinesā– ā– ?

Great thread, keep the stories coming.

Will doā€¦

Darren.

You could easily tell which motor belonged to Roly, look at the trailer, he never missed a bloody hook.
Never knew Jimmy Sherrington had his own tipper, memory plays some strange tricks.
Bill

quiet today, is everyone loaded and gone down the road  :unamused:

Been as its quiet Alan seeing that pic of your F10 reminded me of running with magic one day both of us going to Walthamstow.usual crack run with us as far as Liz`s cafe at Grantham have breakfast then you lot would wave by by & leave me standing in me F7 & get there before us. Anyway running with Gorden off he goes in front sort of keeping up with him till we got to the Peterboro roundabout & Gorden had to pull up a bit quick OOPS whole load shoots forward we both pulled into the layby after rounabout straps snapped load was over headboard a bit tidied it up but I waved by by to him, cos he had to take it canny from there to walthamstow, but he did get it there

darren tell Ronny little Kenny off Collinsons asking after him

Thanks for posting the photo for me bumper.I have realised it is part of the photo i posted on page1 but the background is different.but i dont know the name Bill Heaton. Regards Ken

Hi Kenny, you must be mistaken about Jimmy Sherrington. I spoke to Yan, his brother in law, this morning and he told me that Jimmy never ever owned a tipper nor did he drive one for anyone else. When he left Dents he went to work for Newcastle Breweries.

bill,
do you remember the driver who refused to swear, it was always flipping this and blinking that and
when something went really wrong it was oh dam!! captain alan kirk ha ha,

or the bloke from cockfield who walked up the driver with kettle and pots hanging from the bag slung
over his shoulder, all he needed was corks on his hat, jimmy something or other lol

alan

Hi Alan, the bloke who never swore was Harry Bowman, not to be confused with Bobby Bowman. Harry was small with gingerish hair, I think he came from Brandon or somewhere thereabouts.

Hi Ronnie, photo of Harry Bowman ( flipping heck) taken in Sept.2006 at a reunion He used to drive DGR 964 and then UUP 762. He had terminal cancer at the time. He lived at Browney. Regards Ken.

Is that Dorothy Bowmans husband, I did a little bit for Dorothy in the mid eighties when I was between jobs although I never met him

Hi Bill, i got that wrong, dementure setting in!! The owner driver in the story was Dennis Lockey.
Regards Ken.

Hi Darren tell your Dad Ronnie that I havenā€™t a clue about the ā€œtangerineā€™sā€ but Iā€™m thinking this is Ronnie
getting his own back for me telling everyone about him having a ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  in front of the police car

Hi Folks, here is a photo of a Daf 3300 that I had at one time,it was useless. I had to drop 3 gears pulling up to Scotch Corner. First trip out was a load from Alcan to Warrington and, coming back empty, it boiled over climbing up the M62.
I managed to get it back to the yard and Roger Maughan said ā€˜ā€˜Check everything before you take it back to Daf Trucksā€™ā€™
Thats when we found out that most of the electrics did not work. No wipers, heater fan, interior lights, and no electrics to the trailer except front and rear lights. We found out later that the Dynair fan was not connected and some multi plugs had not been connected. It had an air leak that would empty the tanks after standing for 2 or 3 hours, despite a few visits to Daf Trucks, they never managed to cure it.
After a few months it developed more faults and a fitter came from Daf and fitted new pistons and liners. Things got so bad that Caroline sent it back and they exchanged it for a 2800. Different motor altogether, never had a job done under warranty.
