Yes he did, but he had to ask him for the keys.

What was the number of the MAN I drove
Hi Mac,
Dad drove FVN263V and if i remember Tommy Bowen drove JHN.
On another note regarding the tangerines… Ronnie got mixed up and it was Micky Toth. Apparently they both “aquired” some of the orange-coloured fruits from the warehouse in Stowmarket…he sends his apologies and hope this puts your mind at rest.
Darren
iamupforit:
good grief bill, just look at the state of those dirty wheels on that daf,you never saw any of roly,s motors with wheels like that
alan
Nice one Bill…thanks, although I agree with Alan that you could have washed the tyres.
Darren
Thanks Darren for putting us all straight with the tangerines, I was hoping for a great story and a good laugh.
Does Ronnie remember meeting me at the truck stop off junction 16, in the mid nineties, can’t remember the pubs
name at the moment. I was driving for Sherlock Transport Services from Navan, Eire at the time, blue and silver
Globetrotters and useless merc’s.
When I drove the MAN on Dents, there was only the one, it had as I remember a 13 speed column change, a useless
ratchet hand break which all you had to do was move and it released, just after I got it, I was parked up in Stamford
when I turned over and heard the break release, I’ve never moved so fast in my life, as luck would have it, I managed
to stop it before it rolled down the bank into the river, took years off me. I can’t remember the lad who had it
before me, I think he lived over Houghton-le-spring way, I seem to remember dropping him off when he left. Our Ken
will be the man that knows. Was it the one above?
when i started back in 78/79 ish pineapple was driving that M.A.N in the photo,
muppet was on another and i am sure john mcnally had another.
someone put me right. i remember another coming a couple of years later which tony claughan got
and then tommy bowen got it later, was mick toth not on one for a while
alan
Was Mick not driving for McVeigh on the Fridges around that time Alan
I think it was Mick Toth I got mine off but I think that was in the mid 70’s, I wasn’t at Dents 78/79.
hi greek, mick toth had been on fridges but started dents just before me, must check my dates
hi mac, you were definately at dents when i came back otherwise i would not have known you
(must check my dates), you were not long before you were off but i remember you on a M.A.N
can’t recall what mick was driving before you left. have you got any definate dates
alan
Any one remember Kevin Hoban,I worked with him at Forth and Stillers,i think he was at Dents in the 60s,Vic
I can remember Bobby Bowman having a M.A.N. with a column change.
Bill
I can’t remember exact dates, when I left I started with my brother in Scunthorpe with two F89’s running abnormal loads
out of the steel works for THL, I used to park in Dents yard over the weekends, J H always made it clear I was to return
the timbers I dropped my trailer on, or he would stop me parking there. We went bust during the steel strike and I went
to live down Medway.
i will try to jog a few memories
when i started i was given the atki borderer with the ■■■■■■■ in to do day trips with, the four
f10’s had been here a few months, ronnie moore was driving the old f88, the first one, bill, you and
lenny guy had a 1924 apiece, muppet had a M.A.N tony claughan was doing watford with the
240 gardener, kieth had the fold fork, i think gerry kenny had the day cab 88, ray lowes was on the 290
after about 4 months they gave me the 240 gardener and claughan got a 400 series with a 290 ■■■■■■■
fot the watford job, pineapple had the s reg M.A.N. am still thinking
alan
The only motors I ever drove on my two visits to Dents was first visit: Atki 4 wheeler Box van which was made into a flat and then onto a Atki 8 wheeler and finally an Atki Artic which I think had a Gardner 120. My second visit I had an Atki artic, a F86 and then the MAN with the column change. Dents had no forklifts on the trailers, Pineapple never had a MAN and we had no Sedon Atkinsons while I was there. I never drove a Merc at Dents ever.
If them T reg F10s were new Alan that would make it 1979
hi mac and kenny
my memory is hopeless but those f10’s were only months old when i started
mac, what was pineapple driving when you were there, and also the forklift i refered to was attached
to a f86, which folded into the chassis. john, was nigel thompson and paul patterson there and if so
which motor were they on, phew!!!
alan
Hi Alan Sorry but I can’t remember what motor Pineapple was driving at the time and the names of the other two lads I don’t know, that’s not to say I never met them, but there were no folk lift trucks carried on trailers when I left, the trucks where still in Red livery with White roofs, there was only one MAN, which I had until I left. You may remember that during the strike, Roly, Pineapple and myself were on the Union committee and when JH was going to lay off quite a few drivers, it was me that put the motion forward to go on a 4 day week in order to keep the remaining drivers on, J H agreed, but it took quite a bit to convince the rest of the drivers, but it did go through in the end. Mac
Here we go lads, when we used to load tea in Whalebone Lane, what was the name of the company we loaded from?
Bill
another question I can’t answer, it’s definitely alzheimers i’ve got Remember the place well though, used to park in there over night long after I had left Dents, there was a good pub across the road that used to have strippers on…not that I ever watched them myself.
