Dedicated to Fodens. Paccar's biggest mistake. R.I.P!

did anybody ever drive an old twosroke with a david brown gearbox?. i drove one for a bit on atlas transport & shipping. thier main fleet were dodges but they had a few of these old fodens on contract to british alluminium. the air filter was in the cab and they were so noisy, but they could have pulled up the side of a house. no power steering, just a five speed gearbox with super low. but they did have air brakes. i seem to remember they had a ratchet handbrake. top speed about 40 mph. no heater ,freezing in the winter, baking hot in the summer. proper lorry. ray.

Just a thought for those that may not be aware and state they like to buy British made trucks. Well DAF are made in the UK :sunglasses: So buy a DAF :sunglasses:

Some won’t believe it so look Here

I must admit I didn’t know that…very impressive

I could be totally wrong, but i thought that only special types/ heavy haulage were built in the uk?

daftrucks.co.uk:
Leyland, Lancashire — PACCAR-owned Leyland Trucks is the largest producer and exporter of trucks in the UK and has the capacity for 25,000 DAF trucks each year. The 600,000m2 plant (85 football fields) is considered to be one of the most modern, flexible and efficient manufacturing plants in Europe.

thats a ex west transport (ilkeston) motor, they had loads of them up till about a year ago,the gas conversions had been disconnected for a long time due to the cat engines kept cracking the cyln heads.they were replaced with axors and i dont think the drivers where overly impressed with them.the fodens where sold on by a dealer in coalville, they still had a lot for sale when i last visited about 4 months ago.
