An ERF over a Scania, still can’t believe that:
Well. Try.
The driver of this EXC has a 525 ■■■■■■■ at his disposal that he tells me has been uprated to 550. His overall average economy was just below 8 and he turned down the option of one of two new Scanias that Ian Wright has recently purchased to stay with the ERF. I would undoubtedly have done the same.
Just read the whole thread through,i think its ironic what "Limey " said about DAF not wanting FODEN to use the XF cab after S/A had nailed it to there strato for years.I would quite like to see a photo of the prototype fodens with the XF cab fitted. The XF cab now looks really dated anyway the SSC looks ok with the roof lights but the ordinary space cab looks all of its 21 years of age.
I think that Sed-Aks use of the cab came about via them being owned by ENASA at the time and therefore having access to the cab alongside Pegaso. DAF were at the time known to be very uncomfortable about watching proposed sales vanish as many operators purchased the ■■■■■■■ powered SedAks. Once bitten…
I bought an ex s jones ecx (Y215BOJ) last xmas to use whilst my tipper was being repaired after a roll over accident. kept it for 6/8 weeks and I made money on it.
only bad thing about it was the narrow bottom bunk.
You half wits who think that a Scania is better than a Foden Alpha ought to get under and fix em, I run 2 Fodens and 2 Scanias on tipper work and the Fodens are far less trouble.
Indeed pursey. My O/D father-in-law ran an S80, S10 and latterly a 4000 Series 8 wheeler with minimum fuss. He has recently purchased a 420 Scania, a 124 or something similar, and it has just about broken him Financially, mentally and physically.

My good god you lot don’t half witter on. Everyone has there preferences, me personaly i am Scania thru and thru. But, i have always carried a torch for the eaton twin split/■■■■■■■ combo. ERF’s only crime was not keeping up with the times, but many hauliers made a good living from these motors. It was a great shame Foden never got to use the XF cab, that and a decent gearbox may of been a winning combo, certainly could of picked up where ERF fell by the wayside. And as for all you big jessies who dint like/couldn’t use a twin splitter, you may never know what you’ve missed.

You all seen the Terry Seaman article in this months Truck & Driver? Very interesting for Foden fanatics, and for me as i used to work alongside the Seaman squadron a lot of the time.
As far as tractor units go the later Alphas were very similar to the CFs but the 6 and 8 wheelers had their own chassis, Kenworth aluminium X members rear rubber suspension,Arvinmeritor rear axles and a front suspension set up on the 8 wheelers that dont need new rubber bushes every 12 months. My 06 Alpha 6w tipper has 345bhp, a 16 speed box and an engine brake and can carry 16.5t try and spec another make to do that.
Just a thought for those that may not be aware and state they like to buy British made trucks. Well DAF are made in the UK So buy a DAF
I should be on commission.
