Davies Int. Southampton. With photos (Part 1)

Wasn’t Mr Eaton the first Uk trucker to do a trip to Prato? :sunglasses:

Oh I always wondered why it was: “Been to Prato John?” Must have been referring to the Foden Tipper, oh sorry that could have been Ocean Clipper!

I know that John liked the sound of his own voice(Dont we all) but he never struck me as a fighting man.Regards Charlie

I did,nt mean to seem offensive about John and you,re right Charlie he
was not the fighting type.
I worked with Axle a couple of times over the years on Squibbs and
later on Davies and he never did me any harm.
If you were in trouble or broke down John would not leave you.

Yes Tony you are right.I ran both John and his mate Half Pint quite a few times when I was doing the south coast groupage and they were doing the mail to Ventamigllia.Spelt that wrong! Had some great runs down on a Monday as far as Valence. He was a little over the top but good company. No time for fighting.

Hello guys, Happy new year to all.
I not been on for a long time and feel a bit embarrassed coming back on here after a long break. What with Christmas
and PC problems.

So many post to look at.
Harry.
When you worked for Kepstow Freight can you remember tipping in Bristol with X-mas wrapping paper from Russia at a place called
Card Market. I used to drive the fork lift at the warehouse there,.
All I can recall is one of the trucks with the reg, H1 KGB.

Gary the fitter Hi. , Sorry, I will always laugh when I think of the story of
how you got your name. The way certain members on this board waved at
you and thought you were “break dancing” when you were having a convolution on the ground, I’m glad it wasn’t serious.

By the way as Axle has been mentioned, and a great chap he is, in the post I wrote on how I became known
as “Paul Who”, he was one of the guys on the CB (remember those) who, how can I say this who wasn’t happy
that a non Southampton driver they never heard of was working for Buzzer.

Mappo.
Did I pass you Thursday Morning on the M25. It was a white wagon and drag with some thing like
C and E Southampton on the cab. I was driving my Chrysler Voyager R** PJB on the way to Gatwick,
if so you had a side marker light out  .

Les Slater.
Hi mate, All I can do is apologize for working for Kieth Barrett, and a fantastic chap he is also.
The times I had to call round to your work shop and beg you to work on his F12’s without any notice of my arrival,
and then if a can remember correctly ask for some running money too. Thanks.

I hope everyone else are all fit and well, and you will all post a bit more soon.

Cheers for now, Paul.

Hi Paul and welcome back.
It was,nt me you saw on M25 Thursday, i was in Peterborough then Soton
and then spent a very cold night in Cartgate. -5 and night heater packed up.
My MAN draw-bar is plain white, blue chassis and not signwritten at all.

Mappo.
OK, I flashed lights and hazards as I sailed past so someone must be a little confused on who it was passing by in a car.

Cartgate on the 303 ?. You’ll be parking on Togg Hill next  .

Talking of which I have a photo of a Davies truck parked at the lay-by at J 18 / A46. What was I doing there ? , That’s a different story  .

When you said you were Near Bristol last year, was it at the paper mills in Keynsham?. I see a lot of contaners pulling out of there.

Paul Who:

Dunno what you mean Paul.  I heard all sorts were catered for there.
Where,s Togg Hill then ■■ Is that the one on the A 417 between Cirencester
and Birdlip ■■. If not, where is it and how come you seem to know all about these places ■■
What,s the story about J18 / A46 then.
No, i was,nt in Keynsham Paul, cant remember now though where i was.

Foot in mouth, or digging a big hole springs to mind.

The Davies truck was last year in a lay by near a notorious car park nr the weigh bridge on the A46 at j18M4.
This and Togg Hill, A420 Wick to Cold Ashton, are notorious Dogging sites along with Cartgate. But you park-up and pull the curtains so you don’t see all this going on :unamused: .

I only know this from Jockey  . And he got it from “research” from the net…

10.01.09…

All best wishes to all past and present D.I.T. folks…
Hope one and all and their families are well…

Gr8 to see all the familiar faces getting in touch again, happy days, lol…

Goes to prove ya can get the boys out of Davies - but ya cant get Davies out of the boys…

Joe C.

Happy New Year Paul…

Last time I saw you was in Spain, years ago?? I went the the normal N1 route (I followed the signs with N1 ) and you decided to ‘divert’ through the thinnest Spanish street in the world and took all their balconys with you, complete with pot plants & all… with KJB i think?

I worked at Buzbys for a bit, but he was embarrased employing a Geordie and gave me an unsigned Black & Silver Scania 143… to drive … till he sacked me for being a Geordie… hee hee…doh!

Col

You Davis lads are getting me worried. Isn’t Tot Hill on the A34 South of Newbury? Also what is “Dogging”? Is it whippet racing? Regards Charlie

Hows about Brian on the Viking2 Always slipped me money over the counter and asked me to go to the duty free shop. Two bottles of whiskey and two of cognac.Change went into the carrier bag and then passed over the bar “to be looked after” Then a couple of free drinks. He then procceded to put them up and sell the contents at regular prices.Cash going into his sky.Happy Days

Chantal, (note the spelling, she never was Chantelle!) was looking just as she ever did, ageless, when I saw her a couple of years back when I had to ship LH Pompey. I saw her by chance in the town.
