DAFs are shit

From the start of my driving career 7 years ago i’ve heard drivers go on about how great DAFs are, proper mans truck(apparently)they are so great blah blah blah.
I’ve driven Mercs,Scania’s,Volvo’s M.A.Ns and now i have a full time DUF!!!
im sorry but i dont rate them at all??,they pull well but thats about it,im sorry but they are total ■■■■,the finish is crap, interior dated after a couple of years the chassis and external parts look tatty, steering lock is crap, seat uncomfortable, dashboard and switches dated, stereo and speakers are complete PONY!!!..whereas other truck manufacturers are continually making improvements,DAF just stay the same apart from a few minor bits of trim??
i just cannot see the massive appeal of what is basically a turd on wheels!!!

don’t hold back, say what you really mean !

id prob swap my r series topline for a ssc daf. the bed looks good and masses of space. I don’t really care what it drives like

I agree about the 95 - XF, they don’t appear to have developed or changed much since 1987 when the best DAF ever made was finally laid to rest.

im confused   sooooo your saying you dont like 'DAF’s??

I have always found them to be quite a pleasant little motor to drive, especially the older ones with the
16 speed ZF and no adbloo.

Personally i think they are great. I have driven the 2100 as an “A” frame draw bar then the 2800, 3300, and 3600, then a couple of the 95 series then the XF models, all artics.

This particular one was hard as nails. Stood up to a fantastic amount of hard driving with virtually no problems. Sure they may have their little quirks but it is a truck not a luxury car!!

Gotta agree with wheelnut, the original Spacecab is one of the best trucks of the 80`s and in my all time top three.

Would’nt go so far as call them crap but having driving everything from the 2300 up to the latest Xf’s over the last 25 years there’re not in the same league as the Swedes & Germans & definitely dated now .

Hated them from the first time I ever drove one in 1994, driven a few since and worked as a fitter at a main dealer which did nothing to dampen my hatred of the things!!!

I detest the CF. They rattle to bit, spring suspension for the cab, look and feel cheap and nasty and the steering lock is pathetic. The old style 420 dci Renault Premiums are far superior in build quality and drive and that’s saying something!

Never heard anyone rant over DAF’s, most people say they’d rather not have 1.

BUT, if it’s a choice of a DAF or a SCUMIA, I’d choose the DAF, can’t get comfy in a SCUMIA, always end up with really bad back ache - but, I’m getting the same in my current haxor too, so it’s not just SCUMIA’s.

I hate the CF split window design, always gets in the way at roundabouts.

Can anyone tell me why DAFs can overrun the limiter so easily on a gradient when loaded? My Scania needs a decent gradient before it overruns but give a DAF a slightest hint of a downhill and it’ll fly by

Of course when we get to an uphill section the gutless DAF normally dies on its arse and I go past it in my superior Scanny

that was the last good motor daf made.hence my tag there piles of crap i would rather have a iveco

The DAF I had put the most money into my bank account, when it came up to replace it the lead time was 13 month so I bought VOLVO ,the I shift box is second to none, but I have taken VOLVO mechanicle B/DOWN insurance out…trust,…

really important items in a truck that works for a living

I can’t get a decent seating position in my Alpha; seat is either too low so the sunvisors are useless, put the seat higher and I get arm ache reaching the gearstick and once you hit a bump the seat hits it’s stays; the angle of the seat is crap regardless how I angle it/slide the seatbase. I drove an older Alpha (Daf 75 cab-the '90s cab design) and I enjoyed driving it.
Aside from the seating, why do Daf 6 wheelers suspensions creak like they’re way overloaded?
I think I’ll have to ask to go on an 8wheeler when my 54 plate Foden is due for renewal as we’re meant to be having MAN 8wheelers and Daf 6ws and I’m dreading having another CF cabbed abortion for 5 years+
(Give me my N reg 3000 series or S reg 4000 any day)

It’s probably more a case that the latest trucks are zb compared to the good old 1970’s/80’s designed ones. .

Given that old six wheeler there, uprated to 3600 spec but fitted with the contant mesh box and Bostrom suspension seat from the old 1978 2800 which I drove and couple it to a scandinavian 40/45 ft drawbar trailer I’d be as happy as a pig in zb.

I have often wondered why Stobarts have stopped buying DAFs.

Why do Dafs have that lip in the cab floor which makes it difficult to sweep the cabs out? I’d guess many drivers on general haulage don’t notice it but tipper drivers/sludge tanker drivers etc certainly do!
Oh, why is the screenwash filler so bloody high up?
When will Daf sort out the “ABS Warning” nonsense? If they can’t, do away with ABS!
Their door panels rattle aswell… :imp:
