Daf CF Tacho

Yipeedoo.
Got a new CF(Not Euro6).
The tacho head display in it is very dim,(and when you scroll up to see driving hours etc,it`s very difficult to see, taking your eyes off the road for a sometime lengthy time)
Is there anyway of increasing the display brightness on it without going to Daf/VDO?

Have you tried the dimmer that does all your dash and things? I can’t remember if that affected the tacho too?

No Wayne, not with this particular model.

I’ve just been though the VDO manual and can’t see anything for brightness, doesn’t look like there’s an option to alter the brightness on the machine itself.

First time I’ve ever heard someone being overjoyed about getting a new CF! I break out into a sweat every time I get to work, hoping there ain’t one hooked up to my trailer as a replacement for my ageing Scania!

Yet another bad point about DAFs. I think every other truck maker has managed to get your driving time from the DTCO displayed on the dash. Not DAF though. They are still in the dark ages. Maybe the Euro 6 will be different.

Have you tried switching the lights off? I’m pretty sure that on our Dafs all the displays (including the tacho) are only lit at full brightness with the vehicle lights switched off.

I went from driving 55 plate Scania R420 to a 12 plate Daf CF… wish I could swap back, absolutely no soul in the DAF and its completely gutless :frowning:

Snobbery?? LMFAO! Not at all…our 61 plate CF reminds me of a G reg Leyland Freighter I used to drive many years ago…they were ■■■■ then and they are ■■■■ now. And FYI, my Scania is a 10 year old 124 420 with over 3.5m km’s on the clock…the poshest thing about it is the 2 quid air freshener in it!

I don’t think for one minute that the CF will be going strong in 10 years time with 3.5m k on the clock, Mon’ the Scannys :stuck_out_tongue:

It’ll probably be lucky to see 350,000!! I’ve actually put a couple of snaps up in the 3663 Reading thread of my ride in its latest guise!

Switch the head lights on?

Oft took a licking and kept on ticking then, Done a couple of trunks for Bidvest from Falkirk down to Royton, the Scania I was given was a rocket, from Falkirk all the way down the M74/M6, I think only one truck was able to pass me. It is all DAF CF’c that the local (rigid) guys get

There’s a DAF CF410 in work, nicer than the Axor and some nice touches to the interior, reliability seems to be an issue and I hear people complain about them but I don’t mind them. I expect they’re a bit nicer with a bigger cab (only fitted with a small sleeper cab). Auto gearbox is like any other, nice to have low speed manouverablity compared to the axor. Nice to drive something different but after a week of CF’s and Axors it’s nice to get into one of the older Scanias. CF interior feels better quality than an Axor. Scania DAF and Axor are the only trucks I’ve driven apart from an old Volvo on test so can’t compare to others.

I was annoyed that I can’t get the driving hours to show on the dash. The tacho isn’t that easy to see, even harder when you need glasses to drive with but not to read with, keep trying to look over the top of my specs. I do like very much, the fact that the Tacho only registers the time I drive and doesn’t eat up my hours like the one in the MAN.

Trust me Actrosman, sarcastic to the end!
Gave up a 08 XF flat cab,and absolutely no comparison.Heaps of scrap the new ones.
Tried the lights on/off,obviously a difference, but nowhere where it should be,re the brightness.
