The idiot on the cycle was totally in the wrong, in fact all of them were including the ■■■■ filming the incident. Firstly it is suicidal to ride up the inside of any vehicle, be it car bus or truck, the only safe way to pass any vehicle is on the drivers side. Secondly he was in the drivers blind spot as most of you will know. Thirdly he was sitting in a ‘Left turn’ lane and by going straight ahead was in violation of the law, as far as the truck driver knew all vehicles including cycles had turned left and should not have been there in the first place.
I’ve been watching the Roadcraft series of videos by Chris Gilbert former class 1 police driver and he distinguishes between bikers and cyclists.
I would suggest that despite the appearance of this particular individual he is more biker than cyclist as clearly he has little understanding of the highway code or for that matter his own safety. This is typified by the behaviour of bikers. Just like when we were all kids biking around up and down kerbs, weaving in and out of traffic, skipping lights, etc… Anyone purporting to be a cyclist would not behave in such a way.
My own attitude would be to let them get ahead of me and if they want to kill themselves do it under someone else’s wheels. If they are incapable of keeping themselves safe then we have to do it for them. Then upload the video of THEIR behaviour so everyone can see how professional drivers behave. I don’t think the driver did himself any favours with all the swearing and aggressive behaviour. May have been better to stay calm and tell the cyclist its all on camera and to call the police.
Who else was shouting at the computer monitor at these ■■■■ bags whilst watching that?
Own up then, because I did.
Total stupidity. They have about as much brain as sheep.

Why do we put up with this [zb]?
London is a bollox place and deliveries should stop just outside the M25, lol.
Those cyclists should get a fine and points on their licence, if they have one.I think that’s the heart of the problem. Cyclists know there’s no recourse against them. So some do what they like.

Cyclists can actually be fined for traffic offences and points put on their licences if they have one. There just has to be the will to tackle their misdemeanours.
I didn’t know that. Needs to be the will but also ability. Harder to track down a cyclist after the fact. Maybe bicycle need some kind of registration plate.

Cyclists 100% in the wrong imo
and the sad thing is, the cyclist will not learn from his mistake, will still do the same thing over and over again, 1 day, he will come acropper
If another vehicle had been in the “turn left only” lane & had gone straight on & collided with the vehicle in the correct “ahead lane” whose fault would the collision be…Exactly! If cyclist`s want to use the road they need to heed the Highway Code like everyone else, unless theres a seperate “Highway Code For London Cyclists Only” Im unaware of…!
Just watched an interesting video on fb showing exactly how all those cyclists could have easily been in the lorry drivers blind spot.

problem is these clowns do this a few times and get away with it . It then becomes a habit and then its the done thing .
Thats all fine and dandy while you get away with it but that one time when you don’t you have become so used to doing this stupid thing that its everybody elses fault hence the "Its London we all do it here " comment .
Its wrong and you’ll only get away with it for so long . That should have been a warning to the cyclists to wake up and realise what they are doing is eventually going kill them . I’d doubt it though .

I also think the drivers shouting and swearing is totally excused because end of the day if he’d have flattened that cyclist when it wasn’t his fault he’d have still have had that on his conscience. He did well to be so restrained I think.
Agreed. Why cyclists continue to argue with 44 ton vehicles is completely beyond me.
at least the comments backed up the hgv driver,my guess is they decided to let it go because the camera footage would show the hgv driver was in the right, the trouble with cyclists is they probably still think hgvs nowadays still have the kind of power vehicles from the 50s/60s used to have and can out accelerate them when riding away, hgvs nowadays are very powerful as we know[unless fully loaded],I bet if the footage was shown to these cycling groups in the uk they would still say the hgv driver was at fault, they will never admit they are wrong in any way

I think you may be surprised what cyclists think of this incident, 10 pages worth here

Cheers for that link Bluey Circles.
Yes the vast majority of poster there can see it for what it was and condemn the suicide jockey as a likely donor.
I don’t reckon there’d have been much to donate if it had all gone pete tong for the bike berk.

No, the lorry driver would have gone to prison if the cyclist had been killed and quite rightly so.
The cyclist may have been in the wrong lane but the lorry driver knew he was there and deliberately endangered him, he even admitted he knew he was there in the video.
The cyclist is an idiot but the driver deserves more for that. There is no winner in a fatality!
albion:
Typical. Cyclist says this is London, it’s different. So what he means that a lane with a left hand arrow, doesn’t mean turn left. Presumably anyone can ignore the law cos it’s London then…dozy git.
I had a look through the Highway Code and book of signs
It shows a simple turn left arrow, like the one in the video and says “Appropriate traffic lanes for different movements at junction ahead”
It then shows the same arrow with the words TURN LEFT underneath and describes this as “Compulsory Traffic movements at a junction ahead. These may apply to a specific traffic lane or to all traffic approaching the junction”
If I’m reading that right it seems the cyclist/s, idiots though they are, didn’t break the law by going straight on as it’s not compulsory - Just appropriate.
I’m not defending the cyclists, they were idiots.
I do however think the driver could have handled the situation a bit better and avoided what happened.

There is no mirror that gives the driver a view looking down , on the lorry, but even if one was fitted, there is still a blind spot .
Cyclist in the wrong.
There must be a mirror - isn’t it a requirement of the Safer Lorry Scheme as well as MOT standard?
Bluey Circles:
But did the lorry driver know what the cyclists were going to do? He would certainly have known they were to his left in the left turning lane, and he must have been aware some of those had decided to come from the left turning position to force their way in front of him into his lane, so why was he not more careful? Just because someone is getting it wrong (either accidentally or wilfully) should not be an excuse to take risks with any vehicle let alone a lorry. I think a more experienced and careful driver would have anticipated better and allowed the cyclists to get on with their stupidity.I think the big problem here is the lack of enforcement of road laws, the police should be dealing with these situations and cyclist riding like that should be fined, I would have the law changed so what you do on a bike could attract penalty points on your driving licence, 3 points on their driving licences would soon change attitudes as the vast amount of cyclists also drive.
I agree the driver could have handled it better but also wonder just how many junctions he’d been through and how many times these idiots had forced him to slow/stop etc etc and whether his temper was going a little. It’s no excuse but a valid reason.

And how do you know he deliberately endangered him ? The driver knew there a few muppets doing the wrong thing, but he might not have known that that particular muppet was where he was. I was riding bikes around London when I was 10 years and older and didn’t even need telling not to do stupid bloody things like that. You’d think someone in an adult body could suss it out.
By the way, the lorry driver might not have gone to prison, none of us are judges, prosecutors/jury members etc.
The driver handled it perfectly well,if the cyclist had of ended up under his wheels and there was no supporting video evidence that the cyclist was in the wrong the driver couod of we’ll have ended up in prison for a few year…and people say “the driver could of handled it better”,what a load of crap the cyclist deserved to be told what a ■■■ he was!!
Anyone would think all our lorry driver had to do was constantly survey the 4 mirrors on the n/s and nsf of the vehicle for half wits trying their best to shove 'emselves under his wheels, if they’re that intent on endangering themselves there is little you can do to stop them.
The driver has responsibility to other road users too and for all four sides of his vehicle as best he can see and judge and is required to make normal progress, i see no problem with his driving or road placement, that Darwin gold star award winner is lucky as hell it was a nice clean smooth sided vehicle, had it been an older design 8 wheeler tipper/rolonoff or similar the result would have been a self inflicted tragedy.
