Aye John that AEC is stood on the road outside what was yet to become our second Garage in Milnthorpe village. The firm of R.O.Hodgson had operated from that site since 1925 and that shot would have been taken around 1966 when Nat West were building a new branch next door.At around that time Hodgsons had been taken over by Boddy Industries from Sheffield and as well as taking over Holme Park quarry(It belonged to ROH as well) they had bought the old Iron Works site in Carnforth and shortly after this time they began to build warehouses on the site and moved the ROH haulage side to Carnforth.I bought the Garage in Milnthorpe in late '72 from an welding engineer. It was a great workshop but with limited parking so eventually I bought K. Fell out and to-gether with the old goods yard I managed to create a three and a half acre site a mile away from any houses. The AEC is loaded with paper from Henry Cookes mill at Beetham but in early 1970 they got kicked out of the mill, guess who worked hard to take fill the void ■■? Great times, great memories.Cheers Dennis.
Colin Bateman and co-driver ( his better-half ) are photographed here on the
Newbiggin on Lune to Great Asby road as they took part in the annual Road Run during this year`s
Easter Weekend Kirkby Stephen Rally.
The Atkinson represents an identical one which Colin`s father used to operate on livestock and general haulage
over 50 years ago.
Leyland600:
Aye cattle wagon man, I see Colin has shut off the air conditioning but I can feel the heat from the cab heater from here !!!
Cheers, Leyland 600.
Quite right , Leyland 600. I had to stand a long way back from the road because of the heat .
There was snow right up to the road edge ,…but the heat from the Atkinsons exhaust has melted away to form a clear channel as he drove uphill . Mind you ,....Colins Better-Half had a shovel,…just in case…
