Thats why Stobart is good for the industry, he put all of these cowboys out of business and did the job more professionally.

Hello everyone.
Has anyone got any photos of Thomas Mandles’s Builders wagons? They where based on South Quay, Maryport and ran a fleet of Commers (4 wheelers). They were bought out by a Whitehaven Company (don’t know who). They had branches at Cockermouth, Workington, Whitehaven, Keswick and three yards in Maryport. I know Scotts of Maryport did some sand haulage from their Warehouse on the Docks known as the ‘■■■■■■■■■■ Shed’.
Can anyone help?

Hello hodgeturbo,
The photo of British Coal at Maryport, wasn’t that where the Glasson Industrial Estate was?

Hello,
There is another photo from my collection.
Enjoy!

Hello
After seeing all this talk on Fairground Lorries of ■■■■■■■■ here’s one of Fletcher’s of Maryport.

Hello again,
Does Alan Fell (Garage Services) of Wigton do Haulage? Someone told me that they did low loader haulage.
Anyone Help?

Well said “H”! But what you’ve always got to bear in mind is that the average ESL fan must surely have the IQ of an Oranutang and the similarities don’t end there either,as most of them will also be “knuckle draggers” as well! Obviously it dosen’t say much for the below average ones, however this lower group of pond life will probably be escorted to the entrance of the nearest ESL depot by their carers and when a motor enters or leaves the depot they jump up and down like chimps and make gurrgling noises probably!!!Cheers Dennis.

Yeh ive seen a few of them red rental trailers. Have you seen that Burridge has a Super Space Cab Xf 105 Daf. I guess Tyson didnt know Andrew had ordered this one lol

Hello georgeking,
Yes, as far as I know, Burridges do have a trailer hire department. They also do Vehicle Servicing and Repairs at their Distington HQ.

If you look on Burridge’s website it mentions about them setting setting up a heavy haulage division, I often wondered why they bought AD Boyes old DAF XF 95!

However there is no mention of Burridge Trailer Hire and the red trailers!

Have Burridges taken over the work out of DEC(Corus) from A D Boyes? Bewick.

Look’s like Lawsons only used to pull empty trailers around. They must have given up on that now, could be the price of fuel.

Tyson Burridge have always hauled out of DEC, although Boyes was the main haulier. Boyes cut back their fleet two years ago concentrating on buses only. I am not too sure who the main haulier is now, if DEC still produces anything!
Tyson Burridge used to have a finger in every pie regarding haulage in West ■■■■■■■ except Ectona, until Eddie Stobart came along now they appear to have been marginalised.
Someone said that they hauled out of Smurfits/Smiths/Lawson Mardon however I thought that Eddie Stobart had this contract? Who hauls out of Smurfits/Smiths/Lawson Mardon now? I don’t know.
I believed that Bewick had a couple of lorries based at Lawson Mardon, did you sub contract through Tyson Burridge?

That must have been Don Bewick,“george” we never ran out of Smith Bros. but we used to deliver loads of Bleach Kraft paper into Smiths at Hensingham from Henry Cookes,Beetham Mill. These loads were usually collected by Smiths contractors as a back load after delivering into Lancashire and for a good few years by Shaws of Lindale after they had tipped cement at builders merchants in the area. But regularly we were still called on to deliver (usually desperate) urgent loads as Smiths work/production always seemed to be time sensetive and required “yesterday” so this is where the proffessionals had to take over as the “marras” were never able to respond in time!!! Cheers Dennis.PS this is a shot of a load of Cookes paper on its side in Ambleside! We reloaded it and never damaged a reel! Smiths, apparently were that “tight” they wouldn’t pay for the reels to be wrapped (Typical Marra outfit!!)
