you are slipping dennis , double l in excellent and only one in talent . you learn to spell properly when you’ve written enough time sheets out !! dave

Now come on Dave, you know that the writing out of time sheets was in anything BUT intelligeble English!! Well it wasn’t IIRC at Bewick Transport, some time sheets were quite ledgible but my oh my! The usual suspects timesheets were in fluent “swhaheli”,jibberish and generally unreadable “■■■■■■■■”.They couldn’t be deciphered by anyone but our Traffic office lads( one or two of which were just as bad!) if we ever asked one of the “remedial drivers” what they meant by a particular set of “letters”(they couldn’t ever be called words!) we would be met by"What you asking me for,you know fine well what I’ve been doing all week,I’ve never been stopped have I" Only redeeming factor was some of these lads were the finest drivers we employed but Scholars they were not!! Skolers (as in Lager) but defo not scholars!! Cheers Dennis.

Two Atkis stood in the yard at Milnthorpe, the one the right was a new one missing it’s bottom bumper which was away at Serck Services for chromium plating at the time. Both these tractors were ■■■■■■■ 220 and DB 6spd but the new one had a Kirkstall HR axle and power steering while the one one the left had a Seddon Group axle and no power steering! This was another one we had chromed and they were both Gravesend based tractors at the time! We also had a couple of Mk 1’s with chrome bumpers but they came into our possession with the chrome bumpers already on.Cheers Dennis.

That bumper would cost a bob or two to get plated,i served my time as a electro plater 1960 onwards till starting driving for Woodhead springs in 68,Vic

(P.S. Bewick, for your infomation I don’t even like Count Down (another waste of electric, unlike Eddie Stobart - Trucks and Trailers!!!).

The apologies are almost complete!!!

Hiya Vic, I see you are still sparring with people!! Obviously CG has never met you!! Although I don’t know Bewick I always thought he ran a smart fleet, and certainly would’nt take him on in an argument about running a haulage company. As for steady Eddies… Be good, Mizzo.

Hiya CG,I didn’t like Countdown either nor did I watch it! I just thought you might benefit from a bit of help with your spelling!! and if your a product of Nelson Thomlinson education (Grammar School) it dosen’t say a lot for the pupils that went to the Secondary school (The cabbage factory) up the road!!And as you are a self confessed “Eddie” fan you are ,indeed,a very sad man!!! I’m not at all sure you can get help for what ails you,but medical science is improving all the time I suppose!!! make sure you wrap up warm when you go out! Cheers Bewick.

hiya,
Well Dennis don’t the very few Eddie fans “can’t be many” have anoraks to keep them warm when spotting something which are as liberal as horse manure at Royal Ascot, PS “Gill” no relation I hasten to add.

Hiya Vic, yes I know you were sticking up for Carl, although when he said ‘Stopparts’ I thought he was just being kind and I would rather read Mr Bewicks exploits than watch 30 seconds of steady Eddies on the 'box. Be good, Mizzo.

Hello everyone.
Thankyou to everyone who replied to my earlier comments. Bewick, you did make me laugh, are you competition with Micheal McIntrye?

hodgeturbo:
armstrongs of longtown1

You are a “masochist” Marra!! Med me badly looking at this shot and it wasn’t my motor eh!.Dennis.

Got a question for you Paul eh! Is there still a quarry at Moota? On the right going towards C/mouth.In the 50’s as a youngster I used to ride with both my uncle and Joe Mumberson from Ireby when they ran into this quarry to haul tarmac. My uncle drove a tipper for Bobbie Mcguffie who along with a “B” licence had a garage /filling station in the village.Mumbersons were primarily coal merchants but also had a “B” licence and did tipper work. A.D. Boyes had the “A” licenced motors in the village then. Oh! and IIRC there was a pub on the opposite side of the road from the quarry and (I think) that this was the pub Bill Pattinson took over after he sold his two tankers to H & M E,but I could be wrang eh! Did Bill Patti have a driver called ****** Messenger that worked for him,I seem to remember Bill had a D1000 Artic that pulled a flat trailer and this gadgy was the driver, same as the first artic Robbie Boyes had after the Albion Reiver. Old memories eh! Cheers Dennis.
