Hello.
Thanks to hodgeturbo for posting the M&N Garners lorry. I’ll be posting some photos of Viv Lightfoot and Garners today (will be on by 7.00pm at the latest).
P.S. Has anyone got any photos of J.J Bateman’s lorries before he packed in? Seen his classic Aktinson at rallies around ■■■■■■■■ I think he ran a Volvo FH12 and a Iveco Eurocargo before they closed.
Can anyone Help?
■■■■■■■■ Gill

J.J Bateman were based next to my Grandads farm, when I was small they had two Ford D Series 4x2 Cattle lorrys one named “Happy Wanderer” and the other “Smiling Thru” then they bought a Volvo F86 4X2 to haul out of Carrs at Silloth, then they bought a Seddon Atkinson 200 4x2 bulk blower off Carrs, after that they bought a Volvo F6 4X2 sleeper at their peak they had four vehicles but they reduced the fleet back to two vehicles, the last I heard was that the grandson was running a wagon.

I can remember a bit further back than that “george” JJB’s first two motors to bear those names were a pre-war ERF ( Smilin’ Thru’) and a 4 wheeler Atkinson (Happy Wanderer) I think thats the right way round! Cheers Dennis.

P.S Do you have a copy of that interview of Eddie Stobart that you could post on here? It just I’ve never seen it and would love to see it.

Hello again georgeking.
Thanks for answering my question on A.D Boyes. I know Boyes parked a lorry their until 2009, when the lorry then seemed to parked up at Syke Rd, Wigton. I always dreaded meeting that lorry at the narrow part of the road to Baggrow (never did). It always had problems getting into the Baggrow road from the Moota to Cockermouth road.
Do you know why it parked there?

Would that be the same Sid Eve that drove for J W Graham in the 50’s/60’s? He drove an Octopus 8 wheeler IIRC. Bewick.
