georgeking:
Regarding Robsons and Stobarts, it’s a bit like comparing Tom Finney with Wayne Rooney, different era, it must be noted though that the latter was influenced by the former. Here is some more Robsons taken from Bubblemans thread:
i ya reet , stobarts did do own work from meatal box but was glass and tbm paper i was getting at with the old mighty ford cargo, well at least they done the job , shame tom finney and rooney didnt drive trux could have opened up a new thred there, robsons work was a bit of everything ici fertilizer , tbm paper waste paper, bog rolls , scaffolding timber pop glass whiskey carnation milk , a bit of owt really just to scrape the surface , a general haulier as it states … ■■■■ shame the passage of time took its toll, but hey what legacy and some happy memories for both me and me dad, next

Hello georgeking
They had these depots (as far as I know):
Carlisle (HQ)
Kirkbride Airfield (one of the old hangers now used by Storage Company)
Workington (Thames Board Mills)
Haltwhistle
Alloa & Flitwick (both after the UG buyout)
I’ll have a look in my Bob Tuck Robsons book and see if theres any more georgeking.
Kindest Regards

why i man, gis a 40 futter and a set of ropes and sheets. c if a can still dee it .ohh me backs just gon
yungnad:
the who did what thread could go on forever, because some people werent around when it was haulage and storage, roping and sheeting, phoning around for digs no msa,s , and lets face it (proper driving), they can only compare it to what they see now, logistics tautliners ratchet straps, and planners, its all worlds apart, i travelled with my old man a day to get to the tip, hours waiting to tip, handball it off, race to a layby with a phone ring around for anything north-ish load up then a day back again, in todays world a six hour trip should take five or your planner will ring for a progress report, tip, call planner on cabphone, bang postcode into sat nav, load up and back, and if its a decent wagon or (truck is the modern word ) you wont even have a clutch,
never mine double clutch,
the two worlds are just so far apart, i,m not even gonna get into for better or worse factor

Hello stampers
Firstly, welcome to Trucknet! I belive hodgeturbo has some explaining to do as I think your right, the photo has come from Facebook, and I don’t think he owns it. I think thats one of Leyland600’s photos from his flicker page. A bit of a laugh after hodgeturbo made such a fuss over some of Trucknets users taking a copy of photos on his Facebook page and using them on here!
Kindest Regards
