We once had a Big J roll over at Lindale roundabout onto the grass verge, the windscreen fell out and didn’t break allowing the driver to step out unhurt! It was loaded with 22ton of pulp for BCL on Park road,Oh! and we refitted said windscreen during the repair job.Cheers Dennis.

Pinched this sad picture off the Welsh Border & Mid Wales thread.

Looks like the road collapsed at the edge. It reminded me of a story Dave Cooksey told me. (Dave’s Dad, Alan, owned Cooksey’s removals, who sold out to Blue Dart when they started carrying for Bowater Scott in Barrow) Bewick will remember them all.

After the buy out, David bought a 4 wheel van - Commer I think, and started pulling out of Bowaters for himself. He was heading up for Bowater’s Washington depot, in the days when you were allowed to go from Tebay to Brough on the A 685. Ironic really, since the road at that time was the original, winding alongside the hills out of Tebay, before they used the old pre Beeching railway line to build a nice new flat one, that now gives me so much enjoyment on my motorbike if I go across to Teesside.

At one really narrow point, he stopped to allow a loaded tipper coming the other way to pass. The other guy edged past him, and when the cabs were level, stopped to say hello.

They chatted for a few seconds. Suddenly, Dave said, the cab of the other lorry started to fall away from him. ‘I reached out to grab his cab, ridiculous in hindsight!’

The other truck rolled over a couple of times down the bank. Dave said the driver was unhurt but shaken up.

John.

Bloody ■■■■■■■■■■ came down here and pinched the sheep from Mid Wales for the leisure centres, now they are pinching the lorry pics.
Cheers Dave.

Here’s another “catasrophe” with a load of BCL pulp for Barrow, this time at Droitwhich just off the M5,useless ■■■■■■■ ■■■■ of a driver but they were fairly concentrated loads in the middle of the trailers but still no excuse,IIRC this was only one of two loads that came to grief out of the hundreds of similar we hauled from Royal Portbury to BCL in Barrow.

They’ve figured out now that it’s the harmonics that can cause a rollover, rather than excessive speed. However, I suspect that if any driver advanced that theory to Dennis on that particular day, he would have been told where to shove his harmonics…

Back to sanity and a decent motor,a shot of one of the many tag axle Scanias we ran and this was a particular nice smooth example

Hiya,
Bloody hell Dennis you can give a roll over merchant a nice tidy

You’re not looking at this the right way round Harry. Dennis didn’t like the ‘soft’ Volvos, so he would be doing you a favour giving you a Scania, even an 80 - a ‘man’s motor’!

John.

Hiya,
I’m not pulling the boots on for owt less than a 110, Scania 80
“mans motor” indeed ideal for dragging empty trailers about.
