Stuart Brakewell is the driver of this. He keeps it tidy considering the work it does.

Cheers Leyland 600.
Great photos all the same L600,so what made you decide to drop from an 8wheeler to a 6?Cheers Bewick.
Hi Bewick, A six wheeler suited the type of traffic being carried at the time ie - farm foods deliveries, cement, engineering products and canned food plus the ERF was a better wagon Gardner 150, DB 6speed and two speed axle with trailing axle giving 52-53 mph as opposed to a Gardner 6LW 12 speed box, double drive 42 mph. The ERF was a very reliable economical wagon to operate and cost me virtually nothing during the 4 years I ran it.
Cheers Leyland 600

Explanation understood, did RWB give you a “thumbs up” at the time? Cheers Bewick.
Dunno if done on here already but are these still parked up? Can’t remember where but somewhere down South or over to the East.
Hi Bewick, Funny thing is Alex was pulling my leg about the Foden being slow and underpowered when he and RW were flying about 2 or 3 days a week with their ■■■■■■■ V engine Dagenham Dustbins spending the rest of the week in the County Garage at Carlisle getting them fettled up or re-engined yet again ! My answer to AH was that I worked a full week without any major problems even if progress was slow with my trusty Gardner and a gearbox that would climb telegraph poles.
Cheers Leyland 600.
Spot on Gerald that’s about the only thing Fodens and ERFs didn’t do was breakdowns eh. Eddie.
" Stainmore King " is the name on Geoff Atkinson`s DAF.
Carlisle Truck Show.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Now why don’t you suprise me L600 regarding the lumber the lads got into with their V8 ■■■■■■■■■■■ AD must have been pulling his hair out at times eh! and having to pay CG their hourly rates as well.I recall HTT telling me a tale about young Alex (if I can explain proper like) that he could put his then Trader into forard’ gear then as he set off he would slam it into reverse and the Trader would literally jump into the air However,I suppose the lads redeemed themselves in later years but, unfortunately, AD wasn’t around to see the complete finale picture eh! Cheers Bewick.
Batemans Volvo was taken at truckfest Scotland in 1994 the rest were taken mid 90’s, except Markleys which was taken around 2002/3. regards prattman.

Excellent photos prattman
The Markley Scania 164L Topline is now owned by a company W A Cope.
It now has the reg W2 SCS but it is still in the silver and blue livery
Sad that only two of the companies in your photos are still going strong and Markley’s now only have on truck (a Iveco Stralis rigid)
Kindest regards

Another of J.J. Bateman & Sons fleet is this Ford D Series , dating around 1979/1980. The Ford would be regularly seen around the north ■■■■■■■ and Scottish Border auction marts. I think this would be the last wagon that
J.J.` ( John) drove before he retired.
Thanks to Johns son , Colin , for allowing me to show this -and other of the family
s fleet- on TNUK.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
