those two ERF’S the red artic and green tipper I believe are parked at Nenthead near Alston, if you go on google maps you can see the green tipper. cheers prattman.

Aye they are in Wrights coaches yard  The green 6 wheeled tipper is further up the road in another yard on the left at a second garage

Cheers for that, it’s coming back to me now. That’ll be the day I slid most of the way down the hill on the road from Garrigill!

Robsons

There wasn’t many firms that ran day cab F10’s, Bulmers cider was one I could think of and maybe some breweries but I believe they were difficult to get hold of.

Anyone remember any of these companys.

Anyone remember any of these companys.0

Aye , Stanfield , I`ll supply some details here .

The photograph was taken in the wagon park of Kendal Auction Mart, possibly late 1950s , or very early 1960s.

The Thornycroft belonged to ( Tom ? ) Roberts , from Carnforth area. E.J. ( Ted ) Towers later bought the business.
Jack Cottam , Levens , sadly suddenly died in the late 1960s. Les Parsons took over. I cant remember whose the 2 nd. Bedford belongs to .
Barnes & Nelson of Selside ( adjacent to A 6 north of Kendal ) owned the Seddon.
Atkinson Bros, ( Crook , ? Kendal ) , with the Commer or Reo .
Harry Walling from Crosthwaite is standing next to his Bedford.

Out of all the haulage companies , Harry`s son , Bob , has just recently retired from haulage , after completing over 60 years of driving,
and sadly all businesses have now closed.

I have a copy of this photo , which appeared in a magazine about 25 years ago.

Many thanks for the memory jog , Stanfield.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Was this the same company  anyone know

Yes it would be the very same company John from what I know, all the three Athersmith Bros. Alf,Billy and Harold all came from Ulverston and the firm gravitated into Barrow as this was the industrial centre of the Furness peninsula,i.e, Shipyard, iron and steel works, iron foundry, paper mill and many other industries.Athersmiths had a filling station and Vauxhall/Bedfrord dealership and depot on Abbey road and then they had a purpose built garage on Hindpool rd.up until Brady’s finally bought them out in the early '70s but I believe they had reached the end of the line by this time as their former customer base was drying up fast, they never even got into operating 40ft trailers by the time they sold out.Apparently Billy Athersmith (the Boss!) was one of the first customers of the fledgling Seddon Motors when they started in the late '40’s and Athersmiths remained a loyal user of the marque until they sold out.Leyland 680 will know a lot more than me about the old firm.Cheers Dennis.

One of the very first pictures that I ever took. The headboard say’s Zeke Myers and has a Langdale
phone number but that is all I know. I have even managed to get the four in line, knock out axle
in the picture. The side of the trailer usually got mangled because tracked machines would be
driven up and slewed rather than take the axle out. (I know because I have done it)

My father knew Zeke Myers , and I can remember seeing Zeke at Westmorland Motor Club motorcycling scrambles, held in fields adjoining the
A 6 , at Helsington , south of Kendal. This would be in the early/mid 1960`s. Zeke was a very popular and successful scrambler in those years.

Zeke also owned a steam roller or a traction engine , which he used to take to ( early ) Steam and Vintage Rallies.

I think Zeke had a roads maintenance contract with the ( then ) Westmorland County Council , whereby he operated diggers/crawlers, - hence the Leyland artic.

Maybe Dennis or Leyland600 can supply more details.

ChuffinHell , but these recent nostalgic photographs have got theol grey cells working . :unamused:

Cheers , cattle wagon man.
