Crane Lorry

Hey guys, just wanted to know if a crane lorry can be driven with just a class 2 licence? Many Thanks

Unless its an artic towing a trailer then YES.

No restrictions within the licences on equipment carried its just down to rigid or towing a trailer

surely you’d need a C+E+E licence drive one of those  :exclamation:

Yes, you can drive one although you won’t generally be able to use the crane attachment unless you have a HIAB certificate.

Incidentally, a bit of trivia for you, HIAB stands for Hydraliska Industri AB. Not a lot of people know that

There is no law that says you have to have a hiab ticket to operate a hiab.

And Michael Caine never said “My name is Michael Caine” or “Not a lot of people know that”

What we really want to know is . . . why are there so many HIAB (sorry) vehicle mounted loading cranes, whose origin of manufacture is Italy?

would be the same answers, well i was told aslong as it was a rigid truck i could drive it, as i asked if you could drive one of those 500 ton 18 wheel cranes out of curiosity, could be wrong though?

No, but virtually nobody would employ someone to operate a crane lorry unless they had one.

On Micheal Caine, you are mistaken youtube.com/watch?v=rX0F3kY3 … re=related on lorry mounted cranes originating from Italy, I have no idea.

You can drive anything on a car licence, so long as it has had the fifth wheel taken off.

High-speed train, space shuttle, anything. Just so long as it has had the fifth wheel taken off. Honest to God, that’s the truth, that it.

I once overheard a driver shouting it out in the Routemasters . . Pride of Kent iirc

Serious question, can you drive a tractor unit on a C as long as you don’t pull a trailer? Or does the fifth wheel need removing/covering?

Actually a mobile crane, no matter how big can be driven on a agricultural tractor licence.
