The latter i think Rob…
Ditto to AndrewG’s remarks.43 years driving LGVs of many different types with many different loads as far east as Afghanistan once.I learned to speak 4 languages.14 years as OD and small fleet operator.Never had a licence endorsement and only ever been fined once (500 pesetas)for not having a stamp on a Spanish permit.DCPC introduced to raise standards and prestige of the profession by means of attendance at 35 hours of lecturing without even a tick box exam at the end.We can all see how well that is working. You can quote statistics till the cows come home but all we need to do is read various threads on this forum or to look about us we drive around. Some professional drivers but a lot of also rans.I’ll have a lie down now.

But that is what it is all about these days mate, …All front, all being seen to be doing things right, but with no real substance in practical terms.
These guys think they are the saviour of the Transport world, they are totally self deluded and think the likes of you and me and others with the same pov and opinion, are the Anti Christs of their perception of ‘progress’ in their eyes…read some posts on this thread alone.
In many cases these guys will never be truckers as long as they have ■■■■ orifices (just look around you every day ) but any damage and ■■■■ ups are just off set and forgotten.
Your experience out weighs even mine, but it counts for virtually nothing these days.
A modern up their own arse type Logistical Solutions co , or whatever the local buzz words are at the moment, prefer a guy wet behind the ears with a string of ‘qualifications’ and certificates to wave under their noses, rather than good old fashioned know how and experience.
In reality as far as practical transport know how goes, they think a trombone trailer is a musical instrument recital but they can be moulded into whatever these firms want…robots.
I just sit back and watch them, take the ■■■■ and carry on doing my own thing in my own way, and still get on fine thanks.

I would like to see first aid being mandortory.
As long as I don’t have to talk to that bloody dummy thing. I had a cb for that.
Seriously, I have done two first aid courses since I started work, but hated the “are you alright” nonsense. I could do all the resus’ stuff but the play acting was ■■■■■■■■.
And there are people in previous companies I’ve worked for that I wouldn’t ■■■■ on if they were on fire.
Quite happy with being free to choose all five courses so I’d go for HIAB, Hours, SAFED (at a push), MPQC (Epic) and load security.
“Driver Welfare” was the biggest load of tosh outside of religious education at school. Working out the calories in pasties and Big Macs, WTG has that got to do with driving?

In the UK though even if it was someone you did like youre’d have to a do a full risk assessment, place cones all around the flaming person and wearing hard hat, hi vis, boots and gloves before taking a ■■■■■ on them…

At this time of year I wear a hi viz fleece which are as fireproof as a '50s motor racing suit so I’d have to decline.
If it’s going to stay, and I personally don’t think it should, it should at least have some sort of structure and real world ‘value’ to it. As it currently is, it’s just a case of turn up and your box is ticked for the day… where’s the value in that? Not only financially wise, but in actually learning something? When I did my 35 hours, I was more confused (and disillusioned) than I was before I did it.
Does it make ‘better’ drivers… not at all imo. The whole thing is about giving some people a good earner. I would wager the vast majority of people who’ve been fined or warned by dvsa et al or got company infringements for messing up their driving hours/ breaks etc. did not have the intent to breach regulations but just didn’t understand the intricacies and if the CPC was of any use and structured correctly, this shouldn’t be happening (imo).

andrewG, you forgot to mention the urine test you would need to take before ■■■■■■■ on the flaming person in case said liquid was harmful to them.hth

Or a certain well known-liveried tipper firm in Oxfordshire have had three employees in 12 months fail random drug tests. When I was there, the bonus I earned meant I couldn’t afford to even test positive for aspirin.
