Cover versions of records

the maoster:
Love Johnny Cash’s version of The Nine Inch Nails “hurt” ( or whatever the correct title is).

Definitely - the raw emotion in his version is amazing. Even Trent Reznor has conceded that JC owned the song.

Always thought it was a Marvin Gaye song

yes it was Marvin Gaye,
however the Marvin Gaye version was a cover, Gladys Knight did the original

No she didnt. She recorded in the mid 1967. Lots of people think Marvin Gaye did the original but he covered it in early 67. It was Smokey Robinson and the miracles in 1966 who recorded the original

I stand corrected

Never heard a bad version of

The Man Who Sold The World even liked Lulu version

I think jimi Hendrix’s all along the watchtower is much much better than bob Dylan’s original
Gloria jones’ ■■■■■■■■■■■■ is sooo much better than soft cell’s cover
Otis redding’s original R-E-S-P-E-C-T is far better than Aretha franklin’s imho also

2 more ‘old school’ cover improvements just remembered.
Break Wind and Fire’s version of Beatle’s Got to get you into my life.

Tavares version of Bee Gees More than a woman.

alison krauss and robert plant covering black dog
alison krauss and union station man of constant sorrow

hey joe by jimi Hendrix done by the Marmalade is different , :stuck_out_tongue: in a good way …tweeter and the monkeyman by the headstones much better than the original by the Travelling willburies.
Metalica s version not a patch on thin lizzies whiskey in the jar.

I think Willie Nelson’s version of Bring Me Sunshine is better than Morecambe & Wise’s. However, I’ll be the first to admit his comedy isn’t as good as theirs.

Speaking of Willie Nelson I personally think that the pet shop boys cover of Elvis’s cover of Willie Nelsons “always on my mind” is the best of them all.

Worse
Red Hot Chili Peppers “Under the bridge” destroyed by All Saints. :smiling_imp:
And the Zutons “Valerie”, regurgitated by Mark Ronson & Amy Winehouse before it was even cold! :unamused:

Better
Pearl Jam “Last Kiss”, originally by J Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers

Original: youtube.com/watch?v=bh4se9YMV3A

Robroy might even remember the original! (If he’s not too busy “down with the kids!”)
