Cotswold Quarry Operators

Yeah your right there Dave, it was never up to what it was intended to be for in those days. but that seemed to be how Grundons were then, as were lot’s of little pits. It was always a good pit to run in or out of then, staffed by proper people who were happy in there jobs’ and got you tipped or loaded, rather than mess you about as much as possible, as seems to be the norm these days.
Cheers
John

It was the same this way John. When Dolyhir was a separate quarry under Mann-Abell,nothing to do with the Strinds which was Nash Rocks, they had a good set up,you were treated properly by the weighbridge clerk, the Manager and most of the blokes, nowadays half of them wouldn’t know your name :frowning:
Cheers Dave.

Yeah so sad but so true Dave, I loved to run down to any of the Kington pits, never a problem never ■■■■■■ about, good people that you could have a joke with, you take the mickey and get it back, made the old job go a lot better.
Cheers

John.

Good people John, most of them from good Radnorshire stock, now you have a lot of mongrels from places like Herefordshire and the like    .

Quite possibly John, quite a few Herefordshire members on here, with a lot more looking but not joining.Get the dog biscuits ready   .
Cheers Dave.

I’ve never had issues with Grundons; Not just Wicklesham sand pit but Padworth and then their new pit at Colthrop (the old paper mill). I get more hassle from certain people on Smiths (they know who they are :open_mouth: and it’s not at the top or bottom)

The reason why Smiths no longer blast at Ardley;

I bet you wish your pecker was as big as that Nathan  .

Yeah but pants would need a movement order

Although not operating a quarry as such, McKennas tipping/recycling operations are based at the old ballast pits along Lower Road, .Eynsham at City Farm. I’ve been told these pits were shallow “as dug” quarries for local road building jobs during the '60s and '70s.

A few from Huntsmans Quarry

A few from Huntsmans Quarry

Always like the look of Huntsmans lorries Steve. There was always one parked in Stow on the Wold, but I haven’t seen it lately.
I expect they have to park at the operating centre now.
Cheers Dave.

That FL7 mixer is a bit sedate Dave  Huntsmans make concrete by washing the dust and stone chippings; something Smiths are trialling at the moment. They’ve got a temporary washing plant at Bekstone Pit (near Burford) on hire from SE Davis and they’re washing the dust from there plus the fines from the ■■■■■■■■ recycling at Gill Mill.

I came home from Gaydon via Stow on the Wold and passed one of their quarries going down through the woods towards Toddington Nathan. They used to have another quarry across by the Cotswold rare breeds farm.Is that one still going.I willl have to have a ride down tat way on a week day when the lorries are working, when we get some better weather   .
Cheers Dave.

Yes it is one of Huntsman’s Steve.I have driven past it several times over the years, but not lately.
Cheers Dave.

Huntsmans are both sides of the Naunton Downs road via a tunnel. On the main Stow road B4077 there’s also Ford Quarry (Hansons) and Oathill Quarry (Johnsons of Great Tew). Smiths of Gloucester have one near Guiting which was known as Cotswold Hills, I think these 3 are used for blockstone more than crushed aggregates.

I’ve seen 2 MAN 8wheelers this week in Multi Agg livery. A bit strange as they were 11plates and Multi Agg were well known for running crap; Unless Earthline have resurrected the name?

Is Multi Agg still going :open_mouth: As you said Nathan they were well known for running crap, everything they had was old crap, the plant, the bridge, the office, the general state of the pit, It all went back 30 years in time. A bit like running into a Roger Constance pit, they just never kept up with it.
