Cornish Companies

Hi Actros Rich. Did you manage to find any more pics of AS Masons kit?

Say hello to him for me then. I was on with Brian for quite a while off and on until I bought my own and went off into the blue yonder. I probably came across you here and there though.

Do you remember when the “activists” drilled the tyres on Grumpys trucks, the scumbags?

And the Phil everyone is asking about, would that be Phil Chapman who went on with Rowe & Co then ended up with Murfitts and was, last I heard, driving for Ontime?

My first job after leaving school was with West Cornwall Storage and Distribution who ran green and red ERF’s.
I spent 8 mths working in the yard, going out loading with drivers etc. until passing my test and was given a 307D Merc van.

The best looking trucks that ran out of Cornwall IMO were the yellow 8 wheeler Fodens belonging to Suttons Fish who were based in Newlyn.
I have some photos but don’t know how to post.

When I was doing my YTS we had a lad called Phil from there with us, he went on to drive for West Cornwall I believe?

Agree wholeheartedly about Suttons, Ive got some old pics of their Fodens which were immaculate.

Can’t remember a ‘Phil’ at WCSD.
There was a Phil who was slightly older than me,did YTS with a bloke from our place and was working for GT Stone.
What year are you talking about?
Who did you work for?

Time eh? Muddles the mind! Yeah Phil worked for GT Stone not West Cornwall. Why Im thinking of West Cornwall is that they had Keith Courts little DAF rigid (1800?) when Keith packed it in and sold up that little beauty and his 2800. Phil was on YTS with me around 1986 I think.

WH Grose? (Nicks Brother I think?)… great name

found a few photos, hope this works, the bedford o type use to run granite all over mainly london i think, putting it back on the road (it’s been resting for 40 years) (trouble keeeping the old cornish plate with out some paper work- any photo’s out there■■?) the sillifants green flat bed is still mobile ( any spares around i need cab pannels to keep her going)
I think the 311 went on to cornwall county councill, and the crane went to R+Os then may be bodmin blocks.

Nice one tractorman, keep at it.I took ages before I could post pictures on here,at least you got that one at a decent size, different to my first attempt.
Cheers Dave.

try again any ideals how i get more than one at a time.

try another

and the first one again, there it was gone.

Hi tractorman, looks to me like your getting the hang of it now, what I do is after writing.
Paste the IMG code (2 lines below it) and the next IMG code (2 lines again) beneath that, even spacing them out like that you can get about 14 photos following each other.
Then press Preview to check how it spaces out, before the Submit button.

Well give it a go tipit

think i got it this time, copy the lot to one group number, I’ll dig out some more soon, cheers.

Have finally got around to digging my old photos out,so hope they jog a few memories. Have got some of A.S.Masons F12 somewhere, still looking!

Cracking pics Actros rich, keep em coming mate.
Cheers Dave.

Great pictures again Actros Rich…do you have any more of firms in the south west that you can post?.
Please keep them coming!
Thanks

Finally remembered your surname, Actros Rich. The accident I had this summer robbed me of some of my memory and things slip my mind too easily now.

That load of granite would have been for Brian and Ann, I presume. I loved that job most I think.

The Sedak of Truscotts… is that the one Phil Crowther was hijacked in, do you know?

sorry to hear that another old cornish company have gone last week ( CAWSEY COMMERCIALS LAUNCESTON)

Found this post and the man in Question on the Roscof to plymouth ferry on Wed night.

Mushrooman asked

Does anybody know of an owner driver from Cornwall called Dave Clark who used to run down to the Middle East in the eighties. I.I.R.C. Dave had a French motor a Berliet or a Saviem and then he had a Fiat, he always had the Cornish Flag on the back of the cab.
