Cornish Companies

Really enjoying this thread, & the Devon one.

Quite a few pictures of Bedford TMs from the Duchy. Does anybody have any of either of the TMs that Teagle Machinery of Blackwater used to run? They were Detroit two-stroke / Allison transmission ones.

I worked for them in 1995-96 (not driving), and the lads used to talk about the old TMs then. The had probably been gone for 10+ years at that point.

Andrew

Some photos of Teagles Merc’ 814’s and trailers would be nice to see aswell.

Hi

I think these old photos are wonderful and I will be posting pics of some of my dads lorries from the 1970’s and 80’s as soon as I have got them all scanned in.

Does anyone have a picture of my father-in-laws old lorry, he’s "The Cornishman, Ron James, and his last truck was a blue Merc, Reg A75 GVU, it would be greatly appreciated if someone could post a picture

Cheers Jude TJ

Hello JudeTJ,
I hope Ronnie’s well.
He did some work for Greenacre Farm Produce while i was there.
They used to hire him to take any overspill to Plymouth Co-Op that i couldn’t fit on the lorry.
The boss there knew Ronnie from old and always maintained that he’d never known anyone to look after a lorry like Ronnie did,in terms of cleanliness and driving style.
Ron had moved into lighter stuff with a Renault Master van when i knew him but i think i’m right in saying he ran a Volvo pulling fertilizer from Truro quay,Calcified Seaweed Company at one time.

Hi

I have been thinking of some more names, yet to be mentioned on the Cornish Companies thread. Some of these are long gone, some still going, others 1 man bands, or carried their own stuff. I know I have forgotten a few, some I can mentally picture the lorry can’t remember the name and I suspect a couple of these have already been mentioned but the main thing is they all have or had a lorry or several around or in and out of Cornwall.

Does anyone remember or have any photos of any of these

Clive Singleton is still running - has a blue and white Renault Magnum. Does anyone remember the Seddon Silver Knight he ran - or the Volvo that replaced it?

Adding to the list in the last post, has anyone got any pics of the below:
Interounty Distribution
DCD Distribution
AA Griggs (Later David S Smith)
GK Mason
AS Mason & Sons
M&S Livestock hauliers

Thanks

Sam

There was a Truck and Driver article on Singletons Strato.
I think he used to run over to Ireland with metalwork.

He was working in the office at Westfields and employing a driver for his own wagon i think, but i could be wrong.

I don’t believe that anyone has mentioned Eric Neale yet - frpm Launceston.

A R Haddy?

If you look at some of the earlier posts on the thread, there’s a photo of one of Haddys’ trucks, brand new at the Royal Cornwall Show.

Hi,I am new on here, but here are some photos of some of the above companies,Sorry thay are a bit grainy, but they are photos that I have scanned, hope this jogs a few memories!

Thanks for posting those pics Actros Rich, they were absolutely brilliant.

Do you have any more of AS Masons kit - in particular the Scanias - E344 RCV and F396 WGL or the volvo that they used to run called Prairie Drifter.

Also, have you any pics of any of Colin Daveys kit past or present?

Finally, have you ever heard of a company that used to run down to markets in the south west - JT padbury that were based in Northampton. They used to run a fleet of green scanias.

Thanks

I do have more pics of A.S.Masons,but I can’t find them at the moment,as soon as I find them,I will post them.

Ideal, thanks for that. Look forward to seeing them

Anybody remember Glover and Uglow? From Launceston I think.
Back in the late 50s they had at least one Leyland Octopus, and if I recall correctly it was driven by a woman.

Great pics, Actros Rich. Reckon I must know you somehow as I did drive the Art Mason F10 on hire once to go loading spuds.

The pics of Dave Browns Peggysue with Pannels old Crusader in the background… That wrecker was awesome!!!

Tony Morris was the Strato Pilot, and then Haynes bought it and Mark Chapman drove it. It was that truck that had the animal rights fools come smashing it up in Plymouth one night. What was Johns surname, the one who drove the F reg Scania? For the life of e I cannot remember.

Do you have any of Haynes at all? Looking for snaps of their 6 wheelers, A23 and A989, and of Erfie, NJU 201P.

Davnic:
My first job after leaving school was with West Cornwall Storage and Distribution who ran green and red ERF’s.
I spent 8 mths working in the yard, going out loading with drivers etc. until passing my test and was given a 307D Merc van.

The best looking trucks that ran out of Cornwall IMO were the yellow 8 wheeler Fodens belonging to Suttons Fish who were based in Newlyn.
I have some photos but don’t know how to post.

When I was doing my YTS we had a lad called Phil from there with us, he went on to drive for West Cornwall I believe?

Agree wholeheartedly about Suttons, Ive got some old pics of their Fodens which were immaculate.

Amen to that, used to see Ronnie’s Merc out on the road and it was immaculate, didnt he live on the road to Lanner in Redruth? Remember seeing him busy cleaning it on a Sunday, immaculate that Lorry was.

Hi All

I think the last couple of posts refers to this one and father-in-law Ronnie taken on top of Lanner Hill. Regards Jude

Can’t remember a ‘Phil’ at WCSD.
There was a Phil who was slightly older than me,did YTS with a bloke from our place and was working for GT Stone.
What year are you talking about?
Who did you work for?

Hi again, you probably wouldn’t know me as I was a kid when I took those photos and John is my dad!
