Hiya Harry, as some of my friends who used to send me Christmas cards would put on the address,
Shuttleworth Upper Ramsbottom :lol.
I.I.R.C. Bert’s yard was on Walmersley Road which changed to Whalley Road just before Stringfellows depot.
The quarry must of been a small place fifty two years ago, were Marshalls who had red motors there then, I think that they also made bricks.
Best regards Steve.
hiya,
steve what i remember of stringy’s depot you came out of it directly onto the 56 and there was a pub directly opposite where the trailer mate and myself after being pushed across the road i hasten to add, used to fill up our tanks before setting off on night trunk i think we got to berts old yard before the first pee was needed then it would be through stockport before another pint and a pie and a pee no motorways then and by careful planning you could be well sozzled before kip time along the a5 for an hour, you got 12 hours for london and needed it, happy days and had there been a regular job i could have done it for a while.
thanks harry long retired.

Wheel Nut:
Where do Hydrogen Supplies of Trafford Park fit into this timeline? I know they were still running into the 80’s
Hydrogen supplies were taken over by linde gas at Irlam depot who in turn were taken over by Air Liquide.
Most of the drivers from the original company are still there ie roger booth ,dennis berry, stuart fearn, gary harding etc,but
where all tupid across to Hoyers whose fleet have the transport contract with Air Liquide.Hope this helps.

Anyone remember Joseph Hoyles were they based around Audenshaw somewhere ? and Richard Johnson & Nephew the wire company from the greymare lane area of Beswick M/c.I think they both ran Fodens.
Richard Johnson & Nephew factory was situated between Mill Street and Grey Mare Lane. Joseph Hoyles were their main outside haulier and yes they did both run Fodens. Hoyles had another depot at either Denby or Darley dale they later went onto Volvos firstly F86 bubbles and then F7’s then were swallowed up into the Maxi Haulage group.
Hi ovlov
Was that Maxi haulages yard on the right hand side just through Newton Heath going into M/chester near where wilsons brewery used to be?.And didn’t Johnsons have a place somwhere in Derby has well? or am I mistaken on that.
Hi Stanfield…Johnsons other depot was also Darley or Denby Dale which was why Hoyles were there also. I’ll ask one of the old Lambs drivers we spoke about the other week as he worked for Hoyles at Audenshaw, but not sure about the original maxi depot
joe hoyle was in audenshaw and darley dale then sarah ann st bradford ,maxi haulage took over goodfellow from quinn st clayton moved to the old nicholls books factory at the bottom of mill st then wilsons brewery on oldham rd ,that m&m were they green motors paul nr wilsons transport, johnsons were at ambergate
thats them mate green motors with red chasis both my dad and my uncle worked for them . had some tasty motors i remember a big j 4 a scammell trunker and a couple of ergo rigids and artics . from what i can remember they didnt have a good reputation . m an m stood for mean and miserable i believe . dad went back to goodys after a short spell there . hows it going anyway bob im rambling on with myself .
not bad ta paul will pop down and see you when i get the chance any luck with work
A couple of Johnson’s Wire wagons, I remember a few of Matlock Transport’s 4 wheelers use to also carry for them using Dodge LAD’s and Bedford TK’s in the mid 60’s.
Bye the way has Frank Hoyle’s from Dukinfield relocated or finished, as I see their yard on the Ind Est is now flat, it wasn’t long ago they had a sign up asking for drivers. (I heard Joseph Hoyle was his dad.)
no its still dead mate . went to tilbury last week and reloaded back out of colchester for huddersfield and done a couple of locals warrington / staylyvegas not gonna set the world on fire mate . your on the road more than me is there less traffic about or is it me ?
going back to that maxi haulage thread they were also tied in with andover transport werent they ? always wondered why there was no mention of kaye goodfellow on there curtainsiders as it mentioned all the others on there trailers . anyone know why .
Are there any photos about of Alec Sharples wagons from Salford.
I drove for him in '75 doing alot of work from Constantine Lloyds Packing at Newton Heath, Salford Docks and Manchester Containerbase.
They bought one of the prototype (H-grille) Transcontinentals which caught fire with an electrical fault in the yard one day, and totaly burnt out. I heard they changed colour from red / maroon, to yellow / black because it gave them more work out of the docks or something ? Their yard was originally off the A6, (the bottom of Cross Lane) then moved into Trafford Park and Weaste, before going over to Agecroft. Did they link up with a haulier called RJM ? at Agecroft.
Austin Wilkinson at Weaste.
Oswald Ingham’s at Deane Lane, Newton Heath.
Norman’s ( Red TK, lutons ) Clayton Bridge.
