Stanfield:
David Healey who had also worked for Alan Seville and Peter Kenworthy who was supposed to do 700 km a day every day when he worked for Townson
I remember the tales of the drivers coming back home and calling at the Floating Light
Hi wheelnut.Pete Kenworthy didânt move wth Roger Townson he stayed with Sadlers and is still there now under the Stiller Group at stockton. He started with Townsons around 1974.

Cheers Stanfield. Sad Stiller sent me a message about Peter K. I think he may be looking in here soon.
I was hoping to contact Dave Healey to get him on on board but he must have changed his phone number.

I really enjoyed those Scottâs photoâs and itâs a great site moomooland, thankâs for sharing them and please keep them coming.
The bubbleman said that he wouldnât mind if I put a few of his Scrapbook Memories Photoâs on this thread, so if anybody thinkâs that they might have an idea where this photo was taken, can I just confirm that it was on Queens Park Road Heywood, just before the bridge.
Hi mushroomman sorry to be so long in replying but i have been on holliday. Re your question about the Remploy truck the driver is moomooland himself Paul Anderson the E&D Atki was outside my then home in Failsworth.Dave Burnâs as far as i know did not get married but moved to Cornwall afew years ago, and the Farewell closed about 8 years ago. Jack Pinder did not have the Farewell but did in fact have the Sun Mill Inn at Chadderton then went on to a pub in Rochdale last heard of in Blackpool dont know where. The pub where the H.G.V.â â â started was the Bridge Inn on Moorhey St Lees the Streetbridge wasin Roman Rd Failsworth another pub much freequented by drivers also i.e Presscotts,Jimmy Halls,Elah Broadbents, Jefferson Bros,James Nuttall,Brian Presscott E&D,Sterling Moulding to mention a few
We ran the â â â for about twelve years from the midd seventies, during this time Roy Harris Jack Pinder and Terry Mayes left the commitee for various reasons but continued to support the â â â in manny ways. Myself and Dave where then joined by my father Ted Kershaw Bill Sturge Terry Chorley and Les Sharples who carried on the same sterling work.We stopped holding the concerts towards the end of the eighties because due to the slump we just wernât generateing enough income.Saddly both my Dad and Bill Sturge have since passed away Les went on to keep apub in Keighley and i dont know where Terry is.
Hope this has filled in a few blanks mate.
Regards Jack Kershaw

Hello Jack, I didnât realise that you were Big J Guy, we did meet on a couple of occasions but I dont expect you to remember them as the last time was in 1975, I obviously got one or two things wrong there so thanks for putting me right.
I think that it was Derick and Doreen Cotter ? who had The Farewell at the time and The Dog Inn on Dog Lane Chadderton was another drivers pub. Do you remember when Terry Maise and Johnny Anker had the accident while working for Scottâs ?.
What a brilliant website that one of Scottâs is , you know the vehicles with Luxan on them, did that company become Vita Luxan at Milnrow ?.
As regards the Oldham and District H.G.V. Drivers Benefit Association you must of helped dozens of drivers who were really down on their luck at the time, so well done to you Jack.
Itâs a long shot, but do you ever remember two Blue Dart drivers who were trying to go overland to Cape Town , South Africa ?.
Roy Harris and Terry asked Greens Tarpaulins if they would donate a sheet with the words Donated by Oldham Heavy Goods Vehicle Drivers Benefit Association on the side. Greens gave them the sheet big enough for a land Rover roof rack but they said that there was not enough room to do the writing
Anyway itâs good to hear from you Jack so take care.
Best regards Steve.
Here are another couple of photoâs sent to me by John Harrison of old companies from the area. I know that they are from the 80âs and not the 70âs but I hope that Dave Penn doesnât mind .
Where do Hydrogen Supplies of Trafford Park fit into this timeline? I know they were still running into the 80âs
Helo Steve
You are right Derick and Doreen did keep the Farewell and went on to keep the Colliers on Old lane Chadderton, Dericks brother Neil drives for Tesco with me.I do remember the South African trip one of the drivers Brian Walsh also works with us small world or what. As regards the accident to John dont remember the details asit was one of my away periods from Scottâsâ,glad you like the site by the way should have some new picâs on soon. Luxan was indeed swallowed up by VITA as where many more at the time
All the best Steve
regards Jack

Tommy Brierlyâs from Swinton, put some (one?) bonneted type yanks on the ACT contract out of Trafford Park.
Brierleys is still going and yes they did have a Bonneted Mack, used to run 24hrs a day that bugger. Got in a lot of trouble with ACT in the Con Base for letting it appear in a magazine with some bird with her â â â â out sprawl all over it. Tommy also appeard on Look North or similar with Stuart Hall doing the interveiw showing it off. I do have the pictures around here some place and when i get time will scan them in and post em up for all to see.
Hello Jack, thankâs for the info on Brian I often wonder what heâs doing now, please pass on my regards next time you see him. I think that another pub that Jack and Derek both had was The Dog and Partridge in Middleton.
Anyway, Marcus The Bubbleman has said that he doesnât mind if I repost some of his North Manchester photoâs, they are all taken from his Scrapbook Memories thread but they are well worth a second look.
Best regards Steve.
I think that Dave Penn will remember the first one.
I am not sure where Trancontinental Freightâs depot was, it might of been on The Heywood Industial Estate but this photo was taken in Don Street Middleton outside the Vitafoam factory.
I think that Carpet Express had a depot on the Stakehill Industrial Estate in the 70âs but I think that they had a depot or moved to the Pilsworth Industrial Estate in the 80âs.
Foden 46, do you remember that Volvo jacket that you got me from Taitâs of Oldham the best jacket that I ever had.
I think that Youngâs Seafoods had a depot in Heywood but I canât remember where it was.
Finally, I bet that every Northern lorry driver reading this has had one or two of Hollandâs pies for their lunch .
With thankâs to Marcus.
Best regards Steve.

Hi Bob lad, did Munroâs do the Tizer and Jusoda from Scotland to Manchester in the 60âs / 70âs,
Hiya Harry Gill, Stringfellows had blue motors in the eighties when I lived just across the road from them and the name of the village that you canât remember where the depot was is Shuttleworth on the A56 .
Best regards Steve.
