I was told that this guy was the only man ever to buy a wagon off Geoff Thursby and then sell
it back when he had finished with it. A 311 Seddon Atkinson whichwas cut up for spares
Come on cwm, I’m sure got some pics of a wagon that spends a lot of time on the A65!!

Steve Jackman, based at Cowan Bridge , is still operating this fine E.R.F. artic on bulk tipping work.
The very tidy outfit is a credit to its owner , photographed here as it leaves home to collect yet another load.

Evening Roy I have a copy of the 2014 Dent calendar in it is a photo of 2 Commers on the cobbles outside Dinsdales shop thought you might know whose they are, all the best
Hi “BIBS” ,
Now ,…what made you think I might know the answer about summat like that
At a guess , I would say that they might belong to the (then) Dent cattle feed supplier , R. H. Sanderson. I can remember him owning a
( 2 stroke ?) 7 tonner Commer flat into the middle 1960s. It lay in a scrap state until the area was cleared in the late 1960
s.
They might have been delivering flour, etc. to Dinsdales shop. That goes back to the early 1960
s when they closed down.
Les Burrow ( youll remember Les , surely ? ) and his father used to have a haulage business in Dent , and they might have owned Commers . Also Les
s father-in-law, George Ellis , had a cattle wagon , - the last being a Thames Trader until the early 1960s. Les bought that Trader and
A licence . The only other owner of a Commer in Dent area was Norman Handley , the livestock dealer/haulier in the early 1960
s.
■■■■ (needs no further introduction ) Harrison owned a Commer 5 tonner ( 422 MTF ) and a Karrier Bantam ( VXJ 726 ) , again in the mid 60`s.
I do not know if Dinsdales had any vehicles of their own , other than (possibly) a small delivery van .
Bl**dy hell , Im kn*ck*r*d after all that brain raking . :unamused:  Your old mate "Dalesman" might know a bit more . He
s been around in haulage a bit longer than us two .
Is the photograph in black and white , or colour , and any clue as to when it was taken ?
Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR , and also to all of your staff.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
That red scania looks to have one helluva burglar alarm, looks like its taken a shine to Cwm !

I was glad the burglar alarm
was tethered inside the cab, because the driver told me it hadnt been fed that morning. :open_mouth: Evidently , the driver
s wife insisted the dog travelled everywhere he went , as no hitch-hiking females would dare enter the cab.

Hi ■■■■■■■■■■■ how strange, only 2 days ago I e mailed a letter to a local paper in Skipton requesting pictures of J.M.Staveley trucks from the 1970’s. I had not had any notifications from Trucknet that anyone had written on this page for months, so presumed it had gone quiet and had slipped down the pages. This morning I get a notification, and trawling back through the pages I come across your pictures. Great to see the name of Staveley again, I was beginning to think I imagined it as a child! I am really hoping that my letter gets printed in the paper and somebody comes up trumps with some pictures of their Scanias. Many thanks for posting these, it’s good to see the firm was still going so recently.

Dieselcowboy:
Chaps,
great thread. I am hoping some of you lads can help me, I did post a thread a long time ago and got zero response, but seeing the areas you chaps are talking about, I have fresh hope. I am trying to track down photos of trucks run by a company, but I am not sure where they were based. As a child I lived in a village called Warton, near Carnforth. A neighbour of mine worked for a firm called J.M.Staveley, and parked his Scania on his driveway, or if he had an early start in the village. They could have been based nearby, but we never visited the yard from what I remember. As far as I remember the cabs were red and they had white bumpers, and he had rigids as well as artics. He used to run up to Scotland to collect trailers from Stranraer, and I guess they tipped them in Northern England. My friends name was Bill McLaren, and when he left J.M.Staveley he went to work as a fitter for B&W Motors. Any leads would be welcome, I am thinking about writing a letter into a local paper to Carnforth to see if anyone recognises this and can help me with photo, but for the time being it would be great if someone recognises the company and remembers anything. Thanks.
Cattle Wagon Man, was Tommy Staveley anthing to do with J.M.Staveley?
cattle wagon man:
Tommy Staveleys Leyland Comet, parked outside
Maythornehis home, alongside the A 65 in Ingleton. GEC 992 was new in 1960, and would be fitted with a (then) maximum-length (22
) and capacity livestock body
with a folding 3 rd. deck . Fox of Lancaster built this solid, but heavy, body.Tommy`s son Eric has kindly allowed me to display these photographs on TNUK.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.

Hi “Dieselcowboy” ,
I am not sure if the two Staveley families are related , but “Dalesman” will know.
I can remember the name of J.M. Staveley as being a calf dealer , but there was another haulier of the same surname who was involved
in an accident during some maintenance on a wagon ( about 30 years ago , I think).
If “BIBS” reads this, he might be able to offer more information.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
