Hi Cattle Wagon Man
J M (Jack) Staveley is Tommy’s nephew, Jack did run wagons many years ago, and as you say he was also a calf dealer. His brother Brian farms at Newby, he had wagons at one time.
Regards Dalesman

Cattle Wagon Man, was Tommy Staveley anthing to do with J.M.Staveley?cattle wagon man:
Tommy Staveleys Leyland Comet, parked outside
Maythornehis home, alongside the A 65 in Ingleton. GEC 992 was new in 1960, and would be fitted with a (then) maximum-length (22
) and capacity livestock body
with a folding 3 rd. deck . Fox of Lancaster built this solid, but heavy, body.Tommy`s son Eric has kindly allowed me to display these photographs on TNUK.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
Hi Dieselcowboy,
A65 june 2011.
Cheers Malc.
Thanks Malc,
nice to see the name still going. It’s the trucks from the 70’s, the Scania 111 or 110 and 80/81’s I am ‘desperate’ to see, I need to see the livery back then, white bumpers I know but colour of cab, and lettering, I know they had J.M.Staveley on the headboard as I drew a picture of one when I was a kid in a diary I made from a trip I did with the driver, Bill McLaren, and I still have it! Unfortunately I coloured the cab yellow, plus some other colours, artistic licence I guess you would call it back then! Wish I had been more authentic, or had a camera when I was 6!!
Away from livestock haulage , the Scania 6 wheeler is seen here almost ready for a farm delivery of fertilizer .
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
Another attempt at displaying this photograph !
Theres no
burglar alarm` dog in the cab this time, - it was too busy chasing parked cars .
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
Hi “Malc Step” ,
Good to see you posting on here again .
I took a snap of this Scania a few weeks ago. It was parked just off the A 65 , close to “BIBS” premises. As I did not know who owned it , I posted the photo on the
Tippers` thread .
Thanks for enlightening me as to whose it is.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Hiya Malc,do you know if that Atky tipper was rebuilt as I can recall that when Bradshaws ceased trading my old pal Malc Woodhouse Snr. bought a tipper off Frank and Norman together with it’s regular job of carting dust to Preston (I think),the driver came with the motor as well and I recall Malc saying that he was a very decent lad as well.Just the old memory cell jogging !! Cheers Dennis.
I don’t suppose anybody gets the Craven Herald and recalls seeing my appeal for J.M.Staveley pictures in the letters page at any time recently? I e mailed the editor but didn’t receive a reply from him.
Hi “Dieselcowboy” ,
The Craven Herald
newspaper is outside my local coverage area , so I can`t say if your appeal was printed, sorry.
Maybe someone involved with tippers in North Yorkshire might be able to help.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.

I assume he’s come from the Kendal way, or that’s a bloody strange position to be in?
Youre quite a bright lad , aren
t you , “Dew” !
The Volvo did indeed travel into Endmoor from the Kendal direction. I was in the following procession
until the
opportunity to pass , thus enabling me to take this snap before the village.
It was a horrible damp and foggy morning when I took the photographs.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Sorry that I can only find two J M Staveley in my collection, but a few more from the A65 to look back on

Many thanks to all who’ve posted. I’ve no idea if my letter went into the local paper or not, I would like to think the lack of replies indicates this!! The illusive pictures of J.M Staveley’s early Scania’s still evade me! I would like to think that somewhere out there, someone must have a picture or two of the old 111’s and 80’s!
