Co op Huntingdon closing

The culling has started at the co op

Hope everybody affected finds employment soon.

Sad times indeed.

Quite possibly the best firm I will ever work for in my life. With 1000’s of people at risk of losing their jobs because of another banking failure!

I don’t understand why a profitable part of the business is having to make sacrifices and supplement a failing area?

I took the plunge into redundancie last year when our depot shut (Nottingham), I was out of work for 4 days.

I hope those affected find jobs as there is life after co-op.

Thought you might have moved to Castlewood. God that place looks huge from the A38. Heard alot of bad things from there though…

That’s not quite how it is. Co-op is now at least 3 years into their plan to move to new, large RDCs, and close lots of small older sites. I believe Huntingdon was a Somerfield site, so closure would have been expected. Not that it helps anyone who’s lost their job, of course.

Don’t they have 2 sites in Huntingdon?

Thought it used to be a somerfield that one…
Remember hating trying to reverse in to them bays with the big rails down either side when I’d just past my test.
Hope they all get sorted with new jobs

The COOP bank will never bring down any other part of the COOP group as they are seperate entities.

The one beside A14 at Godmanchester, next door to DHL, is the chilled and frozen, the other one is off A141 and does the ambient. Unless one of them has already closed.

They are closing the Ambient depot at Huntingdon but keeping the chilled /frozen one at Godmanchester. We don’t know as yet how many jobs being lost but did come as a surprise on Tuesday . 90 days they have said. Will keep you all posted

When did you find out that you was tuping over to N.D and are you warehouse or a driver, or is the whole depot transfering over.

We were told offic. Weds. I knew Tues. It’s only us drivers going over to N.D. Warehouse is staying co-op. Co-op pensions frozen and we start new one with N.D. which appar. is only worth 50% of our old one.
Can somebody tell me how long till Norb. can change contract if at all ? I’m on 5/6k more than norbert drivers, so not gonna be a happy bunny if they can put me on their rate of pay !!

Not quite true, the Co-op, started what was called ‘Project Lidia’ back in 2004, this started with the opening of the NDC at Coventry for slower moving lines, they then started closing smaller depots (RDC’s) which were either Ambient or Chilled and opening up much bigger composite depots (CDC’s). Project Lida was completed with the closing of the Nottingham and Alfreton depots and the opening of the new Castlewood depot. With that in mind, it would suggest, that it was never intended to shut the Huntingdon depot, as part of the restructuring of the distribution network, known as ‘Project Lida’.

Correct that they are separate entities, incorrect that it can’t affect the Co-operative Group. They are looking at selling the Farming and Pharmaceutical side to fill the black hole left by the bank. They are all separate in a sense they all have a separate management structure but it all goes into one pot at the end of the day and is run as a Group and the Chief Executive is in charge of all areas of the Group.

Thats really sad news. I used to pull for Somerfield from that site in my agency days, and know a lot of good lads will be out of work 'cos of that.
My thoughts to all those affected.
