hiya,
Chris would run bent to get North or South of Carlisle in the days of
“state ownership” horrible stuff tried it once when I was forced to stay
overnight there due to being loaded for there It’s a wonder that the folk
from Carlisle aren’t all tea-total, yuk. And Dennis Thwaites bitter is a real
mans drink I cut my teeth on it could kill one right now it’s a real scorcher
here today, but I’m afraid I’ll have to make do with what’s in the fridge.

Hiya “H”,been Crabbing on the shore with my youngest Granddaughter this afternoon, knackered !! Jennings, now thats a Cockermouth brewer that belongs to M&B now I think? Too far north for Kendal but they are selling Jennings “Sneck Lifter” ( not Shirt Lifter!!) in the big super markets,it’s a dark bottled ale and very nice too!! Supped a few on Sunday night !! Jennings ■■■■■■■■■■ Ale is a bit lighter and not as strong so mebe you should start with a bottle or two of that first before you tackle a few “Sneckers” at suitably later date !!! Both nice Ales though “H” and I can “recomend them to this house” !! Cheers Dennis.

IMHO “Vic” any beer brewed south of Brum is absolute “donkey ■■■■”,it’s the water they have got to use,too Chalky, so it is as flat as a witches ■■■ and tastes accordingly.Thats why I started supping Lager and Lime down 'Sarf when it came out Draught in the late 60’s,if I recall it was Harp that was the most popular in those days ? Brewed by Guiness IIRC !! Cheers Hic,hic, ! Dennis.

Yeah Dennis i was in Pitlochry for week a couple of month back and was drinking Harp lager up there, i drink lager at home, but in the n/east its nearly all Carling wich is ok,but it was nice to get a few pints of the old Harp again.I did used to enjoy the "odd"pint of Red Barrel in my younger days traveling around the country Vic.
hiya,
Spent a week down in Poole with a lowloader moving machinery for an ex-Pickfords driver quite a big job as everything was a skates and plates move, the first night the moving team and me after getting sorted out at the digs would have a look out this was Friday night “Poole was closed” walking down the street we spots this pub and the brewers sign depicted a huntsman straight into the bar thinking we’d struck gold and found a Tetley’s pub “six pints of bitter” please, bleedin hogwash some brewery I’d never heard of we quickly ordered six bottles of Mackeson to make the stuff drinkable we tried all over that town the whole week and couldn’t find a decent pub.

Harry you should know they only get old folks down there, salisbury used to brew a decent pint, we used to take tanker loads of Carlsberg down there, I did suggest they had a stronger lager than the river nene one, we had a 5.5, which was inbetween, the special brew, green for the weak one red for the middle one and gold for the special brew.

hiya,
Years ago and long before lager became the “in drink” Wrexham Brewery
did there own lager which was served on draught and it was quite potent
and sold very well, but like all the decent producers of good ale alas now
long gone, Wrexham BRS did their transportation they’re gone too, shame.

Border Breweries from Wrexham a seperate firm from the one you mention Harry brewed beer up until the mid 80’s.
When I was in hospital at Gobowen the porters were always saying how good the Border beer was.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Pretty certain the Wrexham Lager was pulled through an ordinary beer
engine originally and and not pressurised keg served like nowadays, it
is a long time ago so most likely I’m wrong but it was ice cold and very
nice to drink.

Harry I was told they have built houses where the brewery used to be, spent a part of my life going to that place, just passed the football ground and turn right into the brewery.

Norm never looked for the brewery more interested in the
pubs never liked the smell “hops” that lingered in breweries.

But Harry you certainly like the taste of beer, yes I know you only got started on the single malt, to kill any germs left on the glass.

Is it cheaper Harry, like that beer advert, spend less on the cider to drink more of the malt!

hiya,
About the same price in the supermarket Norm but it suits me fine
as a chaser for the malts and I enjoy a can when partaking of a Ruby
Murray from my local Chinese takeaway, “burp” which I’ve just had.

Please Harry don’t face your rear end in this direction, I couldn’t stand the smell, one of the worst combination, cider & curry, even the dog wouldn’t sleep in my sons room.

hiya,
I don’t know whether I’m fortunate or unfortunate but I don’t have a sense
of smell, it just disappeared several years ago when i had several “doses” of
chemotherapy, the sense of smell along with temporary hair loss and some
teeth (the teeth never grew back) the hair did, so using or buying “smellies”
for personal use is a waste of time , and should I drop one I can in all honesty
say, well I can’t smell anything, which usually gets me a slap round the ear.
