Clitheroe tarmac & horrocksford hauliers past & present

BonkeyDollocks:
Few more.

Good to see WHD 120R in it’s original livery there.

My cousin owned that lorry for a few years back in the late eighties. It was still orange and had the same body when he worked it on the Keighley bypass around 1987. If I recall correctly it had Gardner 180 when he first owned it.

Once that job finished it was taken off the road and the engine was replaced with a 265 Rolls. She was given a new lick of paint and a new Townend Steel Body. It can be seen on one of the other threads (think it’s the Yorkshire companies one), as Gloves (Barry) has uploaded a pic.

Here it is again for those that haven’t seen it on that thread.

Here’s a picture for you chaps around clitheroe, it’s my brothers Foden and she works around north yorkshire, ■■■■■■■ and some parts of lancashire doing mostly tar and aggregates. She’s just recently been refurbed and still works 24 hours a day 7 days a week when business demands have to be met with no problems at all.

Hi guesty, did you know if Neville Keighley of D.T.&N.Keighley worked in workshop at AJA Smiths.?

Great pictures again Gloves. Waddington Fell pictures the ERF was driven by John Farley who was a long time Fell man. The Foden. AFV 484R is the truck that lost its brakes coming down the fell road and ended up crashing into the Smithy/Brook that runs through Waddington. I think Mark Holden is driving the M reg Foden, who was another long time fell man. The Brown family owned the quarry until they sold it off. Thelma retarders where fitted to most of the wagons after the big accident in Waddington. Have you any photos of F52 EMB Seddon Atkinson 301? Or any Barnes and Tippings ERFs?

Sorry nothing on the SA 301, but some more ERF’s of Barnes & Tipping

Hi Barry some great photos of the Barnes and Tippings ERFs . Some details of who drove them when I worked there. CDO 811V was driven by Jim Kerrison, RHD 521X was a ex Townmaster motor. A169 was driven by Brian Wheaters, and later on in its life both the driver and wagon went onto the " flat fleet" There was a sister motor to this A168. It was written off in a bad smash. B485 TCK Andy Roe (TIGER) drove this one, again it had a sister motor B486. D587VCX was again driven by JIm Kerrison and judging by the photo I had just started in the garage then because the wagon had just been repainted? and the Tasker tipping trailer had just had the floor welded up before Woody sold it on. Woody use to run Taskers before going on to Don Burr which where very light. E35 ANE now this was a wolve in sheeps clothing!!! Driven by Phil Greatorex and later by Colin Ashton it had a E10 290 ■■■■■■■■ but running at 38tons soon killed it and after spending more time in ■■■■■■■ Worsley to have head gaskets replaced, Woody bought a second hand 14 Ltr ■■■■■■■ and we swapped it over at the garage in Whalley. Again it had a sister motor E34 ANE but this was a 6x2 unit. F490 LBA Brian Clark had this one,it came from Beeches Garage in Stoke and again had a sister motor’ 365 ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ gearbox and Eminox exhausts these where proper motors and I think they both ended up being exported. H630 BDB Andy Roe had this one from new after B485 again it had a sister motor H631 BDB which was a 6 wheel tipper. J856 MVR was JIm Kerrison motor after D587 VCX and he never liked it and wanted D587 back because in his own words J 856 is not right and feels like a lemon!!!, DId you go into the other yard at Whalley to take photos of the Flat fleet and the motors on death row? Cheers again and keep putting the photos on.

Hey up barry the Foden has a sister as well.

Things you see at night whilst loading such goodies as masterflex especially when it’s been mixed a bit to hot and the bitumen runs straight through it and leaves you about 3 inches of goodness stuck to floor the length of the body, yummy.
This photo was taken that very night after waiting 5 hours to get loaded.

Sorry, no never went near the flat trailers.

John Wood, once moved the Leyland Marathon for me, which was parked at the time at the back of the garage and under a flat, putting under the pin of a proper trailer, tehe.

Took few photos of flat trucks or trailers, unless they had a ‘Hiab’ or timber load, apart from this Daf, which was passing Ribble Cement at the time and looked rather smart.

Evil stuff, no none anti-dote! :unamused: When we did the original Carrington Link off of the old M63 for Tilcon we carted some HRA base course with a special mix, it laid dead level in the body and we had to double sheet it, the material always spread out and trapped the bottom sheet! When you stood on it you sank through the stuff and got a boot full, burned your feet of course. Then it left a layer in the body no matter what you applied, really glad when that contract was finished!!! Red Sand carpet was another pain in the backside as well at times, oh how I miss those days…

Pete.

Did Alan Holden ever retire to France, as he certainly took a great interest in the place and driving that old French registered van about

Hi Barry. Alan Holden AKA Skier  or GOBBY don’t.know if he went to France? He ended up jacking in the driving and became Woodys transport Manager and slowly began changing the fleet to Scanias and Crane tipping trailers from the ERF And Donburr set up. I had left by then (new job) but remember his two wagons and tipping trailers, and the bright yellow Morris Ital van he had. Last I heard of him was a few years ago after the TInnilly take over bid when John and Alan ended up in front of Mrs Bell :unamused: Have you anymore photos of the early B series ERF and maybe the Two 6x2 Mercs and the sub contact hauliers? John Cross scania, Danny Mars ERF, Kenny Mabbutts B series and then his E Series ERF. Many thanks
