Were Waddington Fell quarries part of the Thomas Tilling Group at one time, I seem to remember the name on the company list we used to get? There again, that list was never the same twice! I remember reading in CM about them having a Telma Retarder on an ERF many years ago, might have even been a Telma advertisement.

Pete.

Great stuff Gloves and Donkey keep e,m coming.   Thanks a lot .

Great pictures again Gloves. Waddington Fell pictures the ERF was driven by John Farley who was a long time Fell man. The Foden. AFV 484R is the truck that lost its brakes coming down the fell road and ended up crashing into the Smithy/Brook that runs through Waddington. I think Mark Holden is driving the M reg Foden, who was another long time fell man. The Brown family owned the quarry until they sold it off. Thelma retarders where fitted to most of the wagons after the big accident in Waddington. Have you any photos of F52 EMB Seddon Atkinson 301? Or any Barnes and Tippings ERFs?

I remember the accident tarmac, they also built a soft crash lane near the bottom of the hill,is that still there.

. It sure is. Luckily it’s never been used, and it’s quite overgrown now. :unamused: The quarry is now owned by Bardons and I have seen a few wagons going up for a load or two and it’s seems to be getting busy again  I loaded out of there last week and I tip my hat to those old Fell drivers coming down t fell loaded. :unamused: even with Scanias engine brake working overtime I had the trailer brakes/discs smoking somewhat by the time we got t Waddington

The 8 wheelers which appeared in the telma advert were Fodens from around 1969/70 Gardner 6LX and 12 speed Foden box, 10+ years before the accident. Before the telmas I seem to recall Bill Brown talkinv about relines every 6 to 8 weeks.
