Class 1 rigid bodys?

Hi guys what kind of class 1 work can I do that isnt truck and seperate trailer.

Driving truck and trailer is easy yet once I was working for Royal mail and reversing into there stupidly small bays with an inch either side dosent do it for me took me ages and there yards are that busy and trailers every where I cant manover. I only do it once a week so wount get the practice at present.and I want to get class 1 money minus doing work in tight yards so I can tell my agency what i wana do

It wouldn’t be a class 1 if it was a rigid!

Oh dear. If you think a Royal Mail yard is tight then you will really struggle anywhere else. There’s a lot more than 1 inch either side but how big do you want a bay to be?
Maybe you should consider a job with waste where you load up in big yards an tip at a landfill site. The weigh bridge might scare you though as they can be narrow.

Better not go to Stobarts then ’ will he make it across the bridge with only FFFFEET to spare on either side " :open_mouth:
I can’t actually believe your a driver with your post not knowing the difference between a ridged and artic ■■?

I don’t understand why you say “Driving truck and trailer is easy” then go on to tell us that you can’t do it

If you want class 1 money I can only suggest you learn to drive class 1 vehicles

For the love if ■■■■. Surrender your licence to DVLA and buy a ■■■■■■■ tricycle.

If you can’t bang a artic on a bay you don’t have a hope in hell of progressing.

Try taking a trI axle across a farm bridge and throwing a load of cattle feed into a bay with actual inches to spare in front and either side.

You might be better suited to trunking or trailer swaps. Mind you them motorway services can be fairly tight.

Lol

Old HGV class 2 and 3 = rigid vehicle = now C
Old HGV class 1 = artic = now CE
Old W&D = class 2 or 3 with trailer = now CE

The C means the rigid part that has the engine
The E means the trailer

Cannot have a non trailer CE

My god the mind boggles.

You forgot the class 4 Rog

Wow theres alot of sarcastic people on here I was asking advice.

I drive army vehicles and only started civi work.

I only have problems reversing coz im new to it.army make you learn in a small class 2 with a class 2 sized trailer not a bloody artic. Driving over tight bridges is easy but no need for people being ■■■■■■■■■ bet you wernt perfect when you started.

Come back to me when you have driving in a war zone being shot at and road side bombs.

And reason I asked coz iv seen bigger than class 2 trucks that are ridgid ie flat bed set up yet same size as an artic. I prasumed these were heavier ie class 1.

Thank you

Don’t wish too hard cause I know there’s a few on here that’ll have some stories that’ll make ur hair curl.

Alan yes we were all learners once!!!

Practice Makes Perfect mate…

If you need to take 5 shunts to get it onto a bay then take them!!!

Its better to take 5 shunts than go in and say you have scratched a trailer!!

You will thank me for for this advice someday and if you follow it then it will make you a better driver mate…

Good Luck

Yes I do need practice lol. Always knew it be diffrent but jumping at the deep end .iv been driving class 1army trucks for 2.5 years diffrent kettle of fish A there not artics B in army you are always guided into spaces for sake of accidents.we even had a lad killed few years ago killed wen crushed inbetween 2 launchers. So reversing has awlways been controled. Im a DROPS N TRAILER driver you tube it and loading the trailers good bit kit. I do flap a bit due to me shunting and other drivers moaning they want past lol makes me worse so iv only reversed artics 4 times now imy entire time driving. But the only reason im doing this is for exsperiance so I will learn. Cheers guys

Ignore class 2 and class 1, easier if you use the new system of C and CE,
You cant get Class 2 sized trailers as anything with a trailer over 750kg is class 1 (CE)

If it bends its CE (old class 1, ish) if it doesnt bend its C (old class 2/3, ish)
Has nothing to do with vehicle weight and soley down to if there’s a trailer attached or not

good luck getting your experience, after a few trips it’ll all start slotting into place.

I passed in the army class 3 and went to class 2 on granddad rights when the rules changed

The restrictions on licence are
C1E - Restriction 107 = not more than 8,250 kilograms

But then is preceded with

CE - Restriction 102 = drawbar trailers only
This does not specify a weight.

It confused a CPC trainer who was convinced I have a cat CE (class 1 ) until I pointed out what the 102 restriction meant :unamused:

Ok gob on a stick.

You’re not the only army/ex army driver in the world (you’re not even the only one on here)

I’m not going to get into a ■■■■■■■ contest with you, you asked a question, albeit a bit of a daft one.

So allow me to answer it in the manner of your subsequent posts.

Class 1 CE rigids simply don’t exist.

You drive a DROPS and tow a trailer, well done you.

Tell me again how a tank transporter isn’t an artic, tell me again how we don’t drive CE in the army.

If it’s got a trailer over 750kg and it’s a lorry it’s ■■■■■■■ CE.

Wind your ■■■■■■■ neck in and perhaps take the learning that’s been offered to you.

And the problem is you’ve come here saying you want top money without wanting to do the jobs that pay the top money. To me, that’s not really asking for advice. My comment about driving on landfills because theres loads of space may have been sarcastic, but there’s also an element of truth.
I have every respect for people who work in the forces and emergency services but to be honest, we’re not talking about that, are we?

Tipper Tom:

these Eats with rear steer are a problem in some tight motorway services, especially when the trl wheels turn and you’ve not past the trl either side :astonished:

But as others have said, its practice. The more you get the better it is.

So basically if thr truck Is seperste from trailer ie the load then its just C.think ill do class 2 work for a bit get used to all the regs driving civi trucks.

It wasnt being ignorant no knowing the diffrence I was taught trailer is x amount its class 2 but when carrying more its class 1. Since my MY MAN SV has a 3/4t trailer and my drops max out at 44t I thought there were massivly diffrent.
