Class 1 rigid bodys?

This is category C (old class 2)

Regardless of weight.

This is category CE (I think you used to be able to drive this on class 2 licence but now it’s the equivalent of old class 1)

Regardless of weight.

This is also category CE (old class 1)

Again regardless of weight.

I won’t confuse you with class 3 and class 4 because it’s not relevant and tbh it was before my time.

Once again weight has no bearing on what licence you need to drive lorries in civvy street as far as I know but I stand to be corrected (I doubt I will be)

Tom I passed the old class 3 back in the day and I have the entitlement to drive the above, its a CE but with the restriction code 102.

I think its to do with the date I passed my HGV test around the late 80’s and the rule changed in the early 90’s I think.
I have the entitlement but certainly I have never drove an artic (well not with a trailer on at least  )

I was hoping not to confuse the OP with talk of class 3 as I don’t understand it well enough to explain it.

My understanding is clearly a mile off on the old rules and as OP clearly has a class 1 (CE) I didn’t feel the need to dwell on the older categories and the restrictions (which I have no knowledge of)

But I would be interested if someone could explain them to me.

Aha, gotcha

Here you go Tom found this dieseldave’s post covers it :sunglasses:

Thanks for that. Now I’ve got a basic understanding of how it works.

Cheers

No probs,
It was looking busy here or cleaning the house

Have you not got a wife lmao.

I’ve already done my domestic duties this morning.

Good god yes I have, she is a good’n but boy she can moan when I am pretending to be busy

Anyway, with the best will in the world it may be best for you to get in touch with a good training school, explain you have the license but have never driven in civy st and ask to be brought up to speed.

You need to get up to speed with drivers hours/WTD, load restraint requirements, a couple of hours on dropping/picking up trailers and reversing.

It will also help you learn the lingo, and stop you from being confused or needing to ask ‘silly’ questions due to a simple assumption or mistake. Will make your life soooo much easier.

Also, do you need to do the CPC? Could cover a lot of what you need if you do need some hours…

If you pick a good school!

Sense

An old class 4 was basically a transit van flat bed with a 5th wheel and I’m sure the max weight was gross 7.5t

There was many moons ago a lass in devon that drove one delivering cain furniture in it .
