Blind Bob:
Looks like Peter has done well. Good to see a success story not dominated by the big boys. Yes CRS were green and cream changing from ERF’s to Volvos in the late seventies. Had a big warehouse in Sandbach.
Cheers
Bob

i remember pegasus toy’s my dad drove for them in 82/83,his motor was a long wheel base tk,this firm did some proper milage,i remember going to inverness with him,and what a slog that was doing about 50mph top’s,the guys who worked in the factory making the rocking horses ect that he carried had converted the front upper bit of the luton body into a very smart sleeper with pine lined sides and a calor gas double hob, this was just the job ,the only downside was the only way up to this area was via ladder up the drivers side,a bit of a sod when you needed a pee in the night, pegasus finished in 86 i think because the factory burned down, all the best gaz.

Someone,in deepest Cheshire must have some photographic history of the Gordon Plant fleet which IMO was the finest fleet in that area during the years they operated! They were always turned out crisp and immaculate and it was a crying shame that problems with the “brothers” in '79 forced them to close! Bewick.
adr has a pic of them on the ERF thread Dennis !
Thanks for that Dave, same Gordon Plant but not the Haulage operation which was closed in '79 although the family continued with Crewe Cold Store and their livery was as per the adr shot! The Haulage co. were a nice red livery and they had quite a large fleet of ERF tapered chassis 4 wheelers which IIRC had the 5 cyl Gardner 100 engines. They had artics and an 8 wheeler flat or two but it was the 4 wheelers that stood out, always immaculate and sheeted and roped to perfection! I used to get in among them with my D1000 on a Sunday running south to London,Got under my feet something terrible they did!!! Cheers Dennis.

I can’t see a mention of Poplar Motor Transport from Lymm, they were a biggish outfit, what happened to them?
Errr,Lymm is still in Cheshire isn’t it?
Pops was a massive haulier from around the cafe of the same name. They must have been going well before I was born ('64) and their motors always appear in the old clippings and mags. I seem to recall some time in the 70’s they were involved in the container business with what turned out to be a rather dodgy (alleged New York mafia) company called Seatrain. I think when they went under, a good few went with them, but not sure if Pops did.
Who were the guys in Mobberley yard was by the 2 x pubs opposite each other 1 was called the Bull, when I visited my mum I used to sometimes park in their yard

Hello lads,A few firms I can think of from Altrincham are Wild,s motors , a really smart well turned out fleet running Atki ,ERF,Seddon Atki and asmall mix of swedes and a solitary Foden running paper reels to Wapping and reloading from Deptford deep wharf also reels bound for various newspapers up. north . they also didv alot of work to the southwest doing 5 or 6 drops down and reloading clay from ECC ParRandall Barber transport also of Alty still going strong and running a nice fleet of volvo FH,s, on steel work there is also R &R Limbert run by roy and rolf on general work and I,m pleased to say are still plodding along with a mixed fleet. All these firms fleets were well maintained and wanted for nothing maintenance wise!Bowies transport and Rob Roy were from Sale,BTS and Preistners are from Carrington

GAZ70,
Back in the 70’s,when I was driving for Humber McVeigh Salford,we used to take Seatrain containers to either Greenock or Felixstowe,on one trip,I forget the drivers name, but he loaded out of RR Crewe,40ft container with one RR in it.
As he was an avid Norwich football fan,he got as far as Norwich and was looking for somewhere to park, near the football ground so he could attend the game.
During his search for a suitable parking place,he clouted a railway bridge so severely,it damaged the RR inside the container,he had to bring it all the way back to Crewe!!
