Just a random post really, with all the hype about using your phones while in a vehicle could it be an idea to go back to using CB Radios?
I already use a CB radio but I can’t work out how to text the wife to tell her to get my tea on with it.
Sounds perfect excuse for a take away… [emoji6]

My little Uniden basic CB died last week and as I had quite a lot of Pilot loyalty points on my card I decided I should treat myself to a replacement. On offer in the Pilot in Schodack NY was a Uniden Bearcat 880, reduced from $129.95 to $79.95 and having slightly more on the card I decided to buy one, very advanced for me, it has weather channels besides the regular 40 channels and will actually interrupt with severe weather reports I like that, it also has a choice of background lighting colours and day and night settings which I actually like also, I drive a lot over night and the glare can be annoying. Another newer feature is a 6 pin ‘noise cancelling’ microphone, unfortunately it is so good at cancelling noise that not a dam soul can hear me LOL.
Yesterday I called at the same Pilot to complain and exchange the thing for one that worked and came up against the first problem,
“You have had it 8 days, we only exchange within 7 days”
“I am a driver, I could be away for months, exchange the f*****g thing FFS”
Eventually the manager decided he didn’t want a scene and obliged me with the exchange, I went back to my cab and fitted the new one, the microphone didn’t work either so rather than remove the thing I walked back inside to have a go at him “What’s the point of a new 6 pin noise cancelling system if it doesn’t work ?” I asked.
“Well if you look at all the components you will find a small lead that attaches to the mic”
“Yes, I saw that”
“That will convert it to fit a 4 pin mic sir”
“So hold on, you sell an normally quite expensive CB radio with a revoloutionary noise cancelling mic that doesn’t work and then the customer can spend more money buying a new 4pin mic so he or she can be heard ?”
“Well if that’s how you look at it, remember that you got quite a large discount”
“Yeah, a discount that will be eaten up buy the cost of a 4 pin mic” I said “Good news for me and bad news for you is I already have a spare 4 pin mic in the cab so you can stick yours” I left and installed my 4 pin mic which now works fine.
Don’t buy expensive CB’s they are not so great.
